If people were not making illegal copies of the movies they would not be necessary. But alas, they do, so they are.

I'm not sure that has anything to do with it. You can still pirate them along with the trailers...

Just the opposite. People who pirate movies cut out all that garbage since they only rip the movie file. It's the people who pay that get punished.

The notices are not intended to stop people from doing anything. They are simply legal notices that are required to be there IF they do decide to do something.

I know When I rip those disney dvds for the 3 year old to watch. I remove all the crap except the movie file. I see that is much better anyway! I keep the good copy and she can scratch it and it gets messed up I can just make another one or the wife looses them too.

I copy some of the movies i own just to get past the movie trailers. I hate to Demo my movie theater and wait 10 minutes to get to the movie. If your using a HTPC there are ways to skip direct to the movie quickly.

Well on the other hand, having to sit through those endless trailers when watching a movie at home makes you feel like you are watching it at the theater.

Well on the other hand, having to sit through those endless trailers when watching a movie at home makes you feel like you are watching it at the theater. Is that a plus or a minus? Well I guess there is some benefit to all those trailers you have to suffer through at the theater because that way all those inconsiderate people who come in late don't interfere with the main feature. That's about the only benefit. Then sitting at home having to sit through the trailers also has some benefit because you can cook a turkey while you are waiting.

I've never tried to watch a DVD or BRD where I could not skip trailers. Yes, you have to wait for each one to begin, but then you can skip to the next one. The thread is also about the FBI and Interpol piracy warnings at the beginning of films, so my comments remain pertinant.

Quick tip: Usually the ones that can't be skipped can be fast-forwarded through.

One of the perks of renting via Apple TV is no trailers and no warnings.
I have to admit one of the top reasons I rip the discs I own is to be able to play a movie immediately after I hit "play" on the remote. For rentals, I accept it since I do not own it.

If people were not making illegal copies of the movies they would not be necessary. But alas, they do, so they are. That doesn't make any sense at all. Pirates don't have to sit through that crap. If anything all that preview/piracy warning nonsense encourages piracy. Or you can rip your movies to a digital format before watching and cut all that garbage out. Or better yet, screw movies.
