Navy ships fighting invaders from another galaxy near Hawaii. To be honest, the only thing that saves this movie from being a total dog is it actually gets better in the second half with the first being boring, sophomoric and some of the writing is worse than a SciFi channel offering. For instance the big island is being overrun with alien invaders and the military police happen upon two people hiking on the mountain. They approach the two and yell at them that the island is being invaded by aliens and have to evacuate immediately as though this is a priority for them... Huh? Well, you have to see it... I'm surprised Liam Neeson is even in it..
It does get a bit better as the movie progresses, and of course the Navy kills all the bad guys and all is right with the world.
Where this movie really shines is the CG and audio track which is superb. A great show off movie for sound effects especially. The video is great as well.
All in all, it's entertaining I suppose, especially if you are a teen and are thinking about joining the Navy as it is a real feel good piece..
A rental..

It's a totally implausible movie. I agree with Ed's review - excellent video/effects and audio and as hole-ridden as the plot was, I found myself feeling good at the end, cheering for the veterans and also that the good guys win. It is far from the worst movie I watched in 2012, though. That honor goes to the remake of War of the Worlds. That is probably the most stupid movie (unintentionally stupid, that is) I've ever seen in my life. Battleship is a masterpiece compared to that one.  |

I guess same with audio equipment, we all have our differing opinions on movies. To me, WOTW remake was the worst thing I watched in 2012. And among the worst big budget flicks I've ever seen. |

WOTW is a reference sound movie. it's amazing. I didn't mind the movie to be honest, I actually kind of liked it. As far as battleship goes, it's got it's own agenda, it's a turn off you brain movie.... that being said, I didn't mind it for it's PQ and SQ. It's a solid renter. It's not like it was supposed to be believable.

For a very good sound track watch the latest Tron.
As for Battleship - meh. And when was there ever a Naval ship mothballed that had live rounds left on board? And as for those few guys handling a 1600 pound very round projectile like they did? So much of that movie stretches credibility - I suppose thats what Sci-Fi does though.

But, your review of Battleship is spot on. Overall, I like the movie...a good family movie night choice.
