All,
I'm a little stuck on what to maybe get. Right now I can get a Parasound A21 and A31 for about 4K. I know I can get the XPA-2,XPA-3 for much cheaper. Is there any one out there that has owned both? I'm just looking for a little advice.
Thank you,
Zack

I have a friend with Parasound amps, they sound great. However, your money would be much more wisely spent buying the Emo amp(s) and using the savings for better source material or improving the room/speaker interface. You will *really* hear that improvement!

rwThanks for the reply I did own the UPA-1's awhile ago and they sounded pretty good. My resale value wasn't that great. I know Parasound has a pretty good resale value from what I have seen. I really want to get rid of my Elite SC-37 its a great receiver just lacks some warmth and bottom end. I really would love to upgrade my speakers to Paradigm S8's someday but that is going to take a lot of savings :-)

May want to check the fine print.
Emotiva's 5-year warranty is transferable!
"The Parasound warranty is not transferable and is valid only for the original purchaser unless otherwise dictated by local law."
Think about it!

I had an XPA-3 and with my speakers experienced sibilance at higher volumes. I tried many things, then tried an A21. The sibilance was simply gone, and there was an improvement in the soundstage and bass accuracy.
So it might depend on your speakers and what you are expecting in sound quality. I found the Parasound to be a better amp, but you have to spend a lot to get there. My next purchase will probably be another Parasound. They are also gorgeous compared to the black box look of the XPA's.

Audio Advisor sells the Parasound A21 for $2299.00. It's a 2 channel amp, 250 watts into 8 ohms and 400 watts into 4 ohms.
f you have the room, I'd put my the XPA-1s up against the Parasound A21 any day of the week.
If not, I'd go XPR-2.
Either way, you get a fully transferable Emotiva 5-year warranty and you can still pocket hundreds of dollars.

sharkmanThanks for the replay yeah my only complaint on the UPA-1's I had was they were a little noisy at lower volumes and higher volumes. My Parasound dealer just called me and said he has a brand new pair of JC1's that he can give me a great deal on. but I think it would be way out of my price range but will see.

The last 21 I saw on audiogon was listed for $1200 and didn't sell for a few weeks so I wouldn't bet on the resell being much better than that. There is one listed on there now for $1800 but that doesn't mean that's what he will get for it.

Also I don't know if my local dealer would be willing to ship but he offered me a pair of JC-1's brand new $4000 for the pair. I passed on the deal for a used BAT so he may still have them for sale.

The Halo amps are really good but I'd want to give the XPR-2 a shot first. IMO, the XPA amps are pretty close to the Halo amps, so I'd being willing to bet that the XPR would be every bit as good as the Halo.
Zack, have you checked down at Echo Audio in Portland?

The UPA-1 had the XPA board/module, so you'd probably get similar sound from the XPA-2/3. It sounds like your dealer is willing to deal, I got my A21 for significantly less than retail. Good luck!

@ Pauly Yes I have been talking to Kurt about amp prices. He ordered a pair of JC1s for someone but then they changed their mind. So he is trying to get rid of them ASAP.
I don't have 20amp plugs and I'm renting so I cant use the XPRs I do like how they look though way better than the other amps.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Parasound JC1s on sale at a dealer for $4000.00 a pair. That is a good price... Well, I guess I'll cancel my order for my backordered Emotiva XPR-1s @ $2558.00 a pair and spend over $1400.00 for the on sale JC1s. NOT! ;D

Can he lower the price enough for you?

I have owned the JC1, A21, A51. I currently own the XPA1, several XPA2's and XPA5 I would not dispute that the Parasounds sound good, but I had several problems with quality control. I sold all my parasound gear bought emotiva and have never looked back or regretted it. I have also owned Krell 650m and 250m amps and several others. If I was in market for more amps I would try the xpr series now.

For less than $4000 you can also purchase hypex ncore monoblocks. They are considered very good amplifiers and somebody that had the XPA-2 and compared it to them found the hypex amps to be significantly better. This would be a much better purchase than a parasound IMO.

But the heat was from their high class A bias which is a good thing imo. What kind of QC problems did you have?
