We're starting a little online magazine. In this forum we will post "articles" about various subjects relevant to audio and home theater. Articles will cover a wide range of subjects, but all will be "general" in nature. In other words, nothing specific about individual products. (So, nothing about specific product features, product release dates, and stuff like that here.) Since this forum will be arranged a little differently than most other forums, I'll explain that a little bit here..... Emo-Zine, the magazine itself, will be LOCKED; which means that only the admin can post there. This is so people coming here can read the articles without having to pick through comments, replies, and such things. There will be two SEPARATE threads associated with the main thread: Emo-Zine Discussion will, as you might expect, be for discussion of articles in the zine (and related topics). You'll be able to post threads there, although I will ask you to stick to topics at least (vaguely) related to articles on the zine. This isn't a police state, but I probably will delete threads in that forum if they seem totally unrelated to the Zine. Emo-Zine Suggestions will be a thread SPECIFICALLY dedicated to requests for future stories. Please note that I am NOT promising to do stories on all suggestions. I'm not even promising to read them all, especially if they're long. This is just a place where I can see, in a vague sort of way, what sort of stories folks want. I will NOT answer questions posted in this forum. I may also wipe posts in this forum from time to time (after "mentally noting" which subjects seem to be "generating interest").

But what is the release date of the e-zine? ? LOL ;D Not only that, but if there are any mistakes or errors in the e-zine, will they be fixed and if so, by what method? Will each of us have to update what we see on the screen on a regular basis? ;D

Like I said in the other thread:
Since most of these topics have already been covered out there on the 'web, or at least there is plenty of information on them for those interested enough to look, perhaps the "Zine" articles should be more Emotiva-focussed? Rather than a generic discussion on DACs, for example, which has been done ad-nauseum, how about a combination technical and subjective discussion about the design philosophy and sound of the XDA product line? Or instead of "solid state VS tubes" analysis which has been the subject of ninety-seven million articles, how about Emotiva Amplifiers design philosophy, what signal-path approaches and tweaks are employed in their design, and how that makes them sound? Or, how a hobyist might best employ tube-based sources in an Emotiva-based system?
I think if you want to both provide information not already out there and to promote Emotiva, the articles should be obviously Emotiva-biased.

#1 thing I would like to see on the Emo-zine is a simple, up-to-date list on products and their status.
It can be as simple as a table with rows representing products and check marks or x's in columns showing the status with the possible status for each row being, "In Production", "In development", "Strongly Considering Starting Development", "Currently no firm plan to develop".
I think this would be a great way to keep people accurately informed about Emotiva's upcoming products without having to commit to dates. And, once a product is retired, it would be taken off.

I second the above post regarding room correction. I would love to hear more about the Tact room correction algorithms, PEQ vs graphic, FIR vs IIR filters, what is offered in Tact in the upcoming XMC-1 vs. the UMC-200 etc.
I would also be interested in hearing more about the audio amplifier topologies used in Emotiva amplifiers. An explanation of the Dual differential input stage and discussion of bridged XPA-2 vs a fully differential XPA-1 would be nice too.
Also, line level gain sections and volume control used in XSP-1 and USP1 would be of interest to me as well.
Hmm, what else... maybe even a high level discussion of the upcoming XMC-1 DSP engine with block diagrams of processing/decoding blocks, how they are executed on the hardware, etc.
As you can probably tell, I am interested in the technical side of things...

Hmm, one more thought. It would be interesting to see a "How its built" article too with a description of the factory where the products are made and the assembly and transport of (y)our fine products.

Certainly as new products are released an in depth technical discussion of the design and features in the new unit. Not just a rehash of the product page, but what makes this unit different or better than other designs. Things that the 'advanced hobbiest' (like most of us here) would appreciate knowing about their new unit, and things that might help us use it better.

I agree with the above, as long as articles remain Emotiva-focussed. Otherwise it could come off as just a rehash of Audioholics.

Well, I can tell you that I will not take anything seriously I read in Emo-Zine until it is re-titled

Carrying on the XLR suggestion, over the years, every time I have done back to back comparisons between RCA and XLR connections I have never been able to discern any difference. Whenever I have asked the question of the various manufacturers the common (not the only) response is XLR is really only useful over a distance. What distance? Well, that depends on the local conditions. Well, OK then, what’s the minimum distance that XLR’s are worthwhile in perfect conditions? Well, that depends on what you mean by perfect? How about in your lab where you test your equipment? Oh, we have never done that! The other common “excuse” for not giving an answer is the possible variation in XLR cables.
So my suggestion would be talking about the various Emotiva to Emotiva XLR connections using Emotiva XLR cables and tabling when it’s worthwhile doing and when it’s not. Even if that means in the “perfect” environment, like Emotiva’s lab. That way if it’s say 1.5 metres, then we all know that, with the same equipment, more than 1.5 metres in our “imperfect” rooms will benefit from the swap from RCA to XLR. Of course distances less than 1.5 metres may benefit from XLR connections depending on how “imperfect” our room. It doesn’t have to be complicated, it can start off with one pair of components and build over time.
For example; XSP-1 to XPA-2 = 1 metre (ie; any more than 1 metre XLR connections should be used)
Cheers Gary
