Should it be at all possible to connect an Android phone to the XDA-2 usb audio?
I tried using my galaxy note 2 (jelly bean) and I think it's correctly outputting audio through the usb otg cable, but the DAC is not showing any received signal.
Maybe an XDA-2 firmware update could fix this?

Do you have any other USB dacs to try? Ideally one that is a class 1 USB audio device? To make sure things are getting output from the tablet.
There seem to be some posts around that android should support class 2 audio devices.

Nope, no other DACs to test out unfortunately. I think it is outputting the audio via usb because when I connect it the audio stops playing over the phone speaker.

I'm going to threadjack.... And please forgive the elementary question. So what about an iPhone directly into XDA via USB?
I know nothing regarding class 1/class 2 devices. This is unchartered waters for me. Thanks.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and some DAC's work with it and some don't. For example, the Fiio E7 will work and the Fiio E17 won't work. Function of the way USB is setup on the phone and the chip used in the DAC as I understand it. Here's a link to one thread on Head-Fi that talks about the Galaxy Note 2 and USB output. www.head-fi.org/t/595071/android-phones-and-usb-dacs/405#post_8748466You may find more help on Head-Fi or one of the Android forums.

Thanks. This stuff is so foreign to me. I am an old school CD-lover, but I know out of simplicity and flexability I need to adapt. I just cannot tolerate the audio quality from iPods, etc.
So my goal initially would be to play my iPod collection and my Pandora from my iPhone on my system, thus I am trying to learn if an XDA-1/2 would achieve this?

kse I don't know if the camera kit for the iPad works with the iPhone. If I were you, I'd try out an airport express or Apple TV. If you're in an apple world, they are awesome. In fact they are also reasonably well supported from android too. There are apps on the android that let it play via AirPlay.

For ipods you can use the Wadia 170 to get digital out. iphones are more problematic. I don't know of any reasonalby priced way to get digital out. The Wadia 171i will do it but it's $599. At that price you may think about just streaming files from your computer to your audio system.

Bringing this thread back to life, thought this info would help android/xda 2 fans. I am using XDA-2 Gen 1 with Lollipop (5.x) android successfully with XDA2. Just plug and play with a good OTG cable.
Apologies if this has been covered already.
