Sorry, the quote didn't do quite what I thought it would.
To follow on to this conversation, I check for OS and app updates automatically daily. I have tried the XDA-2 with the latest Mt. Lion release and various pre-releases (developer stream). Same problem. Problem persists across all USB ports on the Mac, and all USB cables I have in hand. The USB problem exists only with the XDA-2, not with the 3 other DACs I tried. So, the tests consistently point back to the XDA-2.
A bit more info: I have tried the other ports on the XDA including the S/PDIF ports. I have also tried other ports on the Mac including its S/PDIF port via Toslink. For the hell of it, I even tried a Rube Goldberg Special including Thunderbolt to Firewire to S/PDIF (via an M-Audio box) to the XDA-2. The only consistent problems were with the USB ports connected to the XDA-2 USB port.
I should think Emotiva would be interested in finding the root cause of the problem. I know (noted above) that one of the techs has seen this same problem with his Mac. Perhaps someday...
Keep those cards and letters coming...

Just FYI to this thread, I gave in and purchased the DC-1 DAC. Lo and behold, not USB problem. To be specific, using all of the cables and computers previously mentioned, the USB hang problem noted with the XDA-2 did not and does not occur with the DC-1.
That's one solution anyway. ;-)
