I received my XDA-2 today but when I connect it to the computer trough USB Windows 7 won't recognize the unit and it shows up as a unknown device. I've tried both the drivers listed on the XDA-2 product page at emotiva.com. When I try the last driver (New Unified Driver for ALL Windows Versions 12/12/2012 (.zip)) I just get this message: "Please connect the CMEDIA USB2.0 Audio Device". I managed to install the previous driver (Emotiva XDA-2 Drivers Archive 11/27/2012 (.rar)), but my computer will still not recognize the XDA-2 and Windows still call it a unknown device. I've tried all the USB ports and two different computers, one with Windows 7 and the other one with Windows Vista. The XDA-2 does not appear in the "Manage Audio Devices" in Control Panel Either (it should appear there as a SPDIF device). Can anyone help me?

It sounds like Windows is simply not communicating with your XDA-2. Since this is happening with two different computers it could be a problem with the USB port on the XDA-2. However, before going that way, I'll ask if you tried a different USB cable. (Certain cables, especially some over about two meters, and most especially some "audiophile USB cables", simply don't work correctly.) If you haven't tried another cable, please try a nice normal 2 meter USB cable (Amazon or Belkin). If it still doesn't work, then it's probably time to give tech support a call so we can try to figure out what's going on. I've tried three different USB cables with lengths from 0.5 to 2 meters, so I don't think the USB cable is the problem either...

Stupid question but did you try restarting the computer after installation and seeing if it recognized it then?

Not a stupid question, I know many don't do that even the software recommends it - but I always do.

Vikingpower, Welcome to the Emotiva Lounge. I had the same issue with my Windows XP and my new Windows 7 PC. With the Windows 7 make sure you have the XDA-2 turned on when you attempt to install the CMedia driver. Right now go to the control panel/sound devices and see the audio tab. You should see this "SpdifOut(USB2.0 Hi-Speed True" as one of the default devices. This is how the XDA-2 device is listed. If it is not there then it did not install. Start over by going to your program lists and un-install the CMedia driver if you see it there. You will have to restart your computer. Then go back to Emo and download the driver again "New Unified Driver for ALL Windows Versions 12/12/2012 (.zip)." Now when it wants to install, be sure the XDA-2 is turned on, attached to the PC with USB cable and the XDA-2 is set to USB on the front panel. This works for me for both the Windows XP and the Windows 7. The only difference is for those with XP you must leave the XDA-2 on all the time and don't shut it down when you turn off the PC or you have to go over this whole procedure again, at least I did. The XDA-2, after the CMedia driver installs correctly in Windows 7, works fine, no problems. I have the ASRC on and it sounds great to me. See if this works. ;D I learned all this the hard way, but with super help online and on the phone from Keith at Emotiva. emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=preampdac&action=display&thread=28483&page=1

Thank you. I had the XDA-2 turned on and connected to my computer all the time. I found the "old" (not the latest) software I managed to install and uninstalled it. Then I restarted my computer and tried again. Connected the XDA-2 to a USB port and installed the software again. But nothing have changed, still the same problem.

Since I only had problems with my Windows XP and it worked great on my laptop with Windows 7 and this new desktop with Windows 7, I was blaming my issues on XP. In my case it seems that the driver was downloading OK but then it wouldn't install. That was because I didn't have the unit on when trying to install. I went thru all kinds of hoops like trying three different USB cables, trying different of my 8 USB ports. All I can think of is make sure you've got the correct driver. New Unified Driver for ALL Windows Versions 12/12/2012 (.zip)found here: shop.emotiva.com/collections/processors/products/xda2Good luck! ;D

Hi Vikingpower, I'm going through the same exact problems. Still waiting for KeithL to call me back. They are either very busy these days or they didn't get my message to him.

Hi. No I haven't. I thought I should try another computer before I contact tech support. I will do that tomorrow. What about you?

Same thing. I tried everything across three computers with three different operating systems. Finally called support and they are going to send me another XDA-2 after returning the bad one. I'm still within the 30 days return policy. They think it's a dead USB input.

I've tried another computer now and it's still dead. I mailed tech support on saturday with a description of the problem and a link to this thread for details. On monday I got a mail back with a couple of questions that is answered in this thread already, which I answered right away. After that I haven't heard anything. Yes, I know the best is to call them - but my English isn't very good so I prefer e-mail.
