$799 is a great price...I'm waiting for the manual to see if the surround-back amps are re-assignable to power Zone 2. The other 'slim' receiver I was considering was the Cambridge Audio 541R, but at $1199 MSRP and no room EQ it's moved into a distant second place.

Not sure if the price for the SR-8100 is a sale price or a special sale price. The processor program applies to the regular product price and not a sale price, but in this case the $799 isn't specified. Let us know when you talk with Emotiva tomorrow, I'm sure others may be considering this as well. The SR-8100 is currently on sale for $799. The regular price is $899. The Upgrade for Life 25% discount and 40% off upgrade certificate apply to the regular $899 price. All the info in is in the Upgrade for Life FAQ on the Sherbourn site: "Are there any other restrictions? Yes, just a few. You must be the original processor or receiver purchaser to qualify for the Upgrade for Lifeâ„¢ program. Your status is non-transferable and does not follow the processor or receiver that qualified you for the lifetime discount. If you sell your processor or receiver, you still hold your Upgrade for Life status; the person you sold it to does not. The 25% off discount is taken off the standard price of the unit. The 25% off cannot be combined with sale prices or other promotions. If within the continental 48 states, a $20 shipping fee will apply. A shipping fee will be quoted for Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and international orders." www.sherbourn.com/pages/upgrade-for-life

Tempting except no pre-outs like anthem mrx. Still a candidate for simplifying a bedroom setup.

I missed that it had no pre-outs. I need them to transition. So, I will just wait for the XMC-1 and work from there.
The cost scenario does not work because I can't use the 8100 with my amp and therefore would have to wait until XMC-1 for use with the amp.

If Emotiva and Sherbourn are going to have a shared community (recommended) then I think the site needs some organizational maintenance and maybe a bit of a face lift. I also think the moderators ought to have some primary, secondary or multi-purpose roles where they parse out a bit versus a free for all. The free for all or multi-purpose is good for all but some of the responsibility of posting in the right place and such is not that optimized. This is of course coming to you from a process, business architecture and efficiency professional as that is my core competency so please do not be offended albeit continuous improvement is a worthy goal.

This little receiver if what I see in the inside pics and the specs should be the UMC-200 and UPA-700 together and should be just as good. I see the warranty went to 5 years and im not sure if I should wait for the price to go up to get the lifetime upgrade. I like my little setup and I want to keep it little and simple. That little Onkyo has digital amplification and is rated at 65 watts if I remember right. I never looked into what its rated all channels driven but it never runs out steam when the sound effects get extreme. It has features to set speaker size and distance and I keep everything large and use no sub (apartment living). I'ts on the long wall and the bass is awesome so I dont think I have problems with low frequency's in the corners. I read that there is not much difference with the High Def sound from blurays but i dont really know. What I would really like to find out is what room correction really does to the sound because it sounds great now. Does everybody need room correction ?

Thank you, Jessica. I just called and ordered it. Good move Axis ; very few rooms have good acoustics and the 8100 has a great parametric eq just like the umc200 that is similar to the classe ssp800 [but better ] Maybe get a cal mike and program like rew and go the diy route or get a pro in like Jeff Meier . Or you may be satisfied with the Sherbournes auto room correction and leave it at that ? Report back what you find ;I imagine the 8100 will find its way into many smaller rooms

I have a Technics SA-GX700 receiver I bought 22 years ago that I used for home theatre and music until 2005. It has two dolby rear surround speaker outs and no center, no sub. I used it for music until 2009 when I got my Emotiva gear.
It has a 3 band parametric EQ. For each band you can have fine adjustment of the center frequency for more resolution on the frequency spectrum and a slope selector to change the whole curve from narrow to wide.
I had more fun playing with that parametric EQ than anything I have ever had to play with on audio equipment. I remember I got a graphic EQ and it was gone in no time. I am going to be the kid in the candy store with this SR-8100. Truth is when I first read about the UMC-200 I was wanting to have it but dont really want big seperate amps.
As far as a review, im thinking I am not one to be able to talk about what sound waves are doing all over the place, but I got a good ear for what I like. If this room correction works good and I think it will, I am hoping I get the fundamental soundrange between 250 Hz and 1 KHz adjusted to get that "punch" and the vocal reproduction more realistic.

Got one on order too. Would of prefered 7.1 preouts to top this one off but looks like it will be nice addition to the system. Have some 4 Ohm speakers and was finding it hard to find an AVR to support them within my budget.

I used my 40% upgrade card to place the order for the SR-8100. Do I still qualify for the " upgrade for life" for future processors purchase from Sherbourn ?. The Sherbourn web site is not clear on that. Can somebody help answer this question please.

Yes, this is what I recieved when I enquired on the SR-8100 Yes, after you purchase a processor, you will be part of the 25% upgrade for life program in both Emotiva and Sherbourn. You can read about the upgrade policy here:www.emotiva.com/faq/processor_upgrade

This is not a complaint but a hope they might consider this in the future. I am looking at buying the SR-8100 and from the pic online thought it had preouts. Fantastic. Is it only for SACD to have these inputs? If preouts happened rocky it would be a very small differential to the umc200 and may cannibalize sales [speculative I know]as they complement each other so well . As it is its an easy solution to get a umc200 and some airmotive actives so its a glass 1/2 full ? Someone may remember if the 8200 had pre outs [ pretty sure it did ] so theres a chance of some description that may be released one day Its dearer so preouts are more expected like other ce's .. The multichannel ins may come in handy if you have more than 4 hdmi components and outside decoding in a component ; not to mention standalone decoders for atmos and other object based audio systems that may eventuate. www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2398588,00.asp

Regarding the new SR-8100, it seems like it may be a sweet deal...but....I have been waiting to see/hear;
1. Some more detailed specs in regard to the amp and tuner section
2. The manual to better understand the feature set and available functionality (the 8100's are estmated to ship in just 8 more days...whats the hold up?).
3. Will the bugs reported so far from the UMC-200 be addressed? (seeing as how this reportedly has the same basic guts!)

ty rocky500 i found it. " Will Generation 2 Upgrade Certificate holders be enrolled in the Upgrade For Life Program?
Yes! If you are the current holder of a Generation 2 upgrade certificate, you are automatically enrolled in the Upgrade for Life program 30 days after you have purchased your next generation processor at 40% off. "
