I think the recommendation to tame the room's hardness is the most sound one - pun intended. It won't cost that much. *After* you have done that, then see if you think you need more grunt. But that Onkyo tested at 162.5 watts/ch., 5 channels driven. It is NOT a wimpy amp... -RW- Ok, and how i deal with the room's hardness?

Ok, and how i deal with the room's hardness? Now this is another involved and controversial topic. I personally have four bass traps on the upper four corners of my room. Acoustic panels at the first reflection points and a carpet on the floor. I also have spaced hanging DVD racks to diffuse reflections. What you can, or want to, do will be the result of the same kind of analysis and comparison that you do with audio componants. There are alot of super detailed technical articles out there that won't make sense to a beginner. Find articles that do make sense and grow in your expertise. Since room acoustics make up 50% of the sound quality in your room, you'll find this a rewarding journey. Here's an article to get you started. www.audioholics.com/education/acoustics-principles/getting-the-right-acoustics-for-your-listening-roomCheck out my signature at the bottom of this post to see my favorite (least expensive) acoustic panel vendors.

Carpets REALLY help (personal experience). But of course, the proper solution is room treatments.
