>> No such thing as overkill. Biggest myth in all the world I think. << Bollocks. Jack a coupla K-Horns into those monster amps and you will *never* exceed 75 watts/ch. Unless, of course, you really enjoy blood running out of your ears... -RW- Klipschorn: POWER HANDLING: 100 w max continuous (400 w peak)We don't all drive our speakers at quiet background levels. ;D

I have a pair of Martin Logan Theos on order. Will two XPA-1's be good for to power these? The Theos can go down to 0.8 ohm, want to know if the XPA-1 can handle it. I can't even find anywhere if it could handle 2 ohm. Absolutely subsolar, the XPA-1's should be the perfect amps for your Martin Logan Theos, they will drive them with ease and dynamics.

Would I hear a difference in sound with xpr-1's over xpa-1's?

Good question, I can't reply to this answer, I never hear the XPR-1s but in this amp you have twice the power supply plus 36 output transistors instead of 24 for the XPA-1s... Is the XPR-1s will be more musical then the XPA-1s? I don't know but for myself the XPA-1s fully satisfy my musical desire with brio, I couldn't be more hard to please The XPR-1 is the new flagship amp of Emotiva now, it shouldn't be bad... ;D

I'm actually leaning more towards two Xpr-1's or an xpr-2, what do you think? Is there that much advantage of the monoblocks and extra power of the xpr-1's over the xpr-2?

You should be fine with either. Like I said the xpa-1's did a very fine job driving my Martin Logan vantage which is very similar to the theos. Ive actually read where some had paired the 1's to martin logan summits and clx's. I'm now pairing them with an XPR-5 while I haven't had a chance to drive the amp (staying with the in laws) I would not hesitate to go back the xpa-1's.
Remember emo offers a 30 day return policy. Shipping cost may be a issue but then again this may be the only way you'll know for sure what works best you.

The two main differences that you may not know about xpr-1 is: It has a lower gain 29db than the 32db of the XPA-1 (good) It uses a class H power supply to supply power to an A/B amp. It's class A power isn't defined and is probably lower than the xpa-1. The XPA-1 does 10 watts of class A power before switching.

I ended up replacing the main XPA-1s with the XPR-1s. I liked them just a bit better, it wasn't a world of difference but, it was worthwhile to me. I hope this helps, -Chris

I know this thread is old, but since I am in the same situation I would like to know how the story ended... Subsolar, what did you buy, and why? any comments?

I have a pair of Martin Logan Ethos powered by an XPR-2. They sound incredible. More than enough power.
