Hello All
I am thinking about adding XSP-1 to my existing system and using HT By Pass to use my beloved AV8801 to watch movies and TV. I currently own only one Sub, but my second one will be ordered soon. Is there any way with XSP-1 to run dual sub from my AV8801 in HT ByPass Mode?
I am trying to add an XSP-1 to see how much the sound quality improves.
Cheers

The short answer is YES. Remember when you push the HT ByPass button, the XSP-1 becomes a stright wire for the FR, FL, and sub woofer connected to the pre-amp and the AV8801 takes total control. Once you buy the second sub woofer just connect it directly to the AV8801; and, once you push the HT ByPass button you will be watching TV and movies with full surround sound with dual sub woofers.

Assuming you don't want to use the stereo bass management of the XSP-1 and only have the one sub connected to it. My solution is going to be to get subs that have both line and LFE inputs, and connect them to BOTH the XSP and pre/pro. I don't know if your existing sub supports this.

I am trying to add an XSP-1 to see how much the sound quality improves. As myself you should find a huge improvement by adding the XSP-1 in your stereo listening, specially with your turntable. I see in your signature that you have a Pro-ject phono preamp, it should be interesting to read a comparison between the Pro-ject and the XSP-1 phono section

Thanks all for replies.
From all answers, I see my option is to have dual sub in stereo mode or dual sub in HT Mode, as there is no way to run dual sub from AV8801 to XSP-1 in HT BY Pass Mode.
I can always switch around every time while moving from listening to music to watching video.
I just sold my phono preamp, as I like the sound from AV8801 Phono.
Thanks again and now my job would be to see if Emo is running any sale on XSP-1

You'll likely love the phono state in the XSP-1. I do.

I can always switch around every time while moving from listening to music to watching video. I just sold my phono preamp, as I like the sound from AV8801 Phono. Thanks again and now my job would be to see if Emo is running any sale on XSP-1 I think you may be able to listen to both subs from the XSP-1 also. You would need to try the method I discuss below or you could call Emotiva and ask them if it will work. If your second sub has both RCA and XLR inputs (that are both active) you could use the RCA hooked to the AV8801 and the XLR hooked to the XSP-1. When you push the HT ByPass switch on the XSP-1 the second sub hooked to the XSP-1 will no longer be active. Thus, the second sub with connections to both the XSP-1 and the AV8801 will now be controlled solely by the AV8801. As your AV8801 is not being used at the same time as you are playing your music with the XSP-1, you should be able to use both subs for music and for movies. You may not even need to hook the second sub to the AV8801 at all, if I understand the behavior of the XSP-1 once the HT ByPass switch is pushed. As another Lounge member mentioned, the XSP-1 has an Audiophile grade phono circuit and may well be superior to the AV8801's phono stage. You may want to compare the phono stages of the XSP-1 versus the AV8801. I have compared the XSP-1 phono stage against an external phono stage costing more than the XSP-1 and found the XSP-1 to sound better. Enjoy your new toys! Copied from the XSP-1 USER'S MANUAL:18. Subwoofer Outputs Connect these outputs to the input of your powered subwoofer(s) or to the input of the power amplifier that runs your subwoofer. Both balanced and unbalanced outputs carry the same signal. If you use a single subwoofer, use the Subwoofer Summed Output; if you use two subwoofers in stereo, then use the Subwoofer Left and Right Outputs. When the Low Pass Selector Switch is set to Full Range, these outputs will carry a full range audio signal; when the switch is set to Low Pass, they will carry only the range of audio frequencies below the crossover point set by the Low Pass Crossover Frequency adjustment. Both balanced and unbalanced outputs are active at all times. When the HT Bypass (Home Theater Bypass) mode is enabled, all three of the Subwoofer Outputs carry buffered copies of the signal received at the Home Theater Sub Input (the signal is reduced by 3 dB on the Left and Right Outputs).

Thanks RoadRunner. I will have that in mind and also reached to Emotiva as well.
To be honest I love 8801 and its day and night upgrade from 8003. I will try phono stage and compare them as well.
Cheers
