Today I received and email from Emotiva saying my UMC-200 and UPA-700 is on its way. I am sharing this with all of you because my wife is less than excited I spent the money and my friends like to come over a watch movies but are not interested the the equipment at all. I'm so damned excited I could wet myself. . This is the first real new upgrade for me in 10 years other than my Sony blu-ray. I have been using an Outlaw 1050 and its been rock solid, but its time to get back into separates like the old days when nothing else mattered but beer and a kick ass stereo. Just thought I would let you know.

(And report back here with your review after its all set up too!).

Awesome man, don't you just wish that the wife could be as interested and excited to sit and listen to music as much as you/we do, mine can sit and watch lame TV shows all night when I would rather sit and enjoy some music whether it be on my big system or just a little radio...lol, I obviously like the big system better but I just don't let all those fancy equations and numbers get to me and start driving me crazy...i find it's all about your emotional state, dealing with anxiety at times music really helps me sit back and relax....anyways enough rambling.
When you get your gear all setup just sit back and enjoy dude, like Erwin said we only live once so enjoy the days we have.

You only live once, that's what I say! Well I don't know about that, but in my last life no one had heard of a home theatre.

Hi all, as promised here is my review of my new UMC-200/UPA-700 processor/ amp combo. First a little background just to let you know where I am coming from. My system consists of a Sony S550 Blu-ray, Audax Home Theater speakers (DIY) by Joe D’appolito for the fronts and center. My surrounds are Klipsch SS-1’s and I use an IB sub consisting by two Dayton 15” IB subs powered by a Carver amp and controlled by a Behringer FBD. My receiver I replaced is an Outlaw 1050. My viewing source is a Sony 48” HD rear projection tv that has been professionally calibrated, and if you are wondering , yes I still love this tv for its deep blacks and film like look. Someday I will go to a projector and screen. My listening area is very small but in a larger room in our basement. The listening area is approximately 10’ x 14’,very small. I have included pics to give you a better idea of the area. I built the entertainment center 6 years ago when we moved into this house. Yes, I know the speaker situation is less than ideal, but the WAF is very high, and I do not plan on replacing her, so happy she must be!!! imageshack.us/a/img69/750/img0036ut.jpgimageshack.us/a/img543/5343/img0039ou.jpgimageshack.us/a/img716/5730/img0046hu.jpgimageshack.us/a/img29/5336/img0047wd.jpgimageshack.us/a/img832/2876/img0043csq.jpgOK, now to the Emotiva additions. The Outlaw has always been somewhat under powered so the addition of the UPA-700 is very nice indeed. What I did was hook up the Outlaw to the UPA-700 just to see what the difference would be before replacing it with the UMC-200. First thing I noticed was how much more impact the speakers had. It seemed to quite the whole system down for lack of a better description. Removing the Outlaw and replacing it with the UMC-200 took it to another level, keep in mind the Outlaw is 10 years old and has been rock solid. Set up was not difficult but took some time to figure out. As mentioned before by others the manual needs to be much better than is it. HDMI switching works great. The GUI is very nice. Zone 2 and 3 have a couple of small glitches. Now for what I think of the sound!! I could come up with a lot of subjective terms and words which mean nothing to anyone but myself, so let me just say….I LIKE IT!!!!!!!. I could not be happier with the way it sounds. I don’t think anyone could go wrong with this combo for the money. This review should have been done quicker, but I have been listening to my system!

Xelah Nice photos of your system. It is very visually appealing. Something you might want to try with the placement of your front and center speakers, to make them sound better, is to move them forward to where the speakers are flush or slightly protruding from the cubbie hole you have them sitting in. I couldn't tell from looking at your photos, but it would probably improve the sound quality if you put some absorbent material behind the front and center channel speakers; and, lastly place some anti-vibration material between the bottom of your speakers and the shelf they are sitting on. Decoupling the speakers from the shelving can go a long way in making them sound more natural. Welcome to the Emotiva Lounge. WAF is a component skill that most of us have learned to deal with -- to one degree or another. ;D ;D Many of the Lounge members look to their fellow members to share their enthusiasm and their experiences with their new gear. To many of us, the Emotiva Lounge is part of our extended family and is our avenue for sharing our love for this hobby. Enjoy yourself and keep us informed on your experiences.

I like the idea of installing some absorbent material behind the speakers. Where would I put it? If you look at the pictures, I have a door on the one side so I can get behind everything. So there is a 2' space between the rear wall and the speaker. Should it go on the wall or just behind the speakers about 6" or so? Thanks for the nice comments all.

I make them redirect my packages to nearest fedex pickup so I don't have to wait on them to deliver it and magically miss me while I'm standing outside by my front door .... ALL DAY LONG. ;D

The fact the speakers are open behind the entertainment center COULD change things a bit. Can't tell if the speakers are rear ported or not...that could impact sound as well (with the space behind). If they are not ported then just "getting" them out slightly from the "cave" is probably good enough. I personally would have to hear them to recommend much else. Experiment with all these suggestions to determine the best sound for YOU. I love my UMC-1/UPA-7 combo. My experience is much like yours in the evolution away from older equipment.
