Well one thing the XMC can do is EQ 2 subs independently (7.2 vs 7.1) Is that important to Bradley? I realize he has a pair of Bag End subs, but that does not mean they need to be treated independently. Depends on the physical arrangement.

it doesn't hurt it ether and most likely will help even if it's just a little

Anyone know if there was any mention of the fate of the XMC-1 at the audio show yesterday?

Anyone know if there was any mention of the fate of the XMC-1 at the audio show yesterday? I heard that the boat the XMC-1 shipment will eventually be placed on is already in the water! Sorry, Andrew did say he'd just played with the XMC the night before and was very impressed, but no 'news'.

Guys, My brother in law lives in Nashville and a few weeks ago when we decided to make the trip from Michigan to Tennessee, one of the first things that came to mind (besides seeing their 3 week old baby ) was to take a few hours and check out the Emotiva headquarters and see what they are all about. As luck would have it, I was fortunate to be able to go on a tour of the Emotiva facilities and see a lot of cool things… including an XMC-1 that was being worked on. The XMC-1 that I saw was getting work performed on I believe the tuner. I didn’t take any pictures of it, but I can tell you that yes the mythical XMC-1 is alive and still in development. I don’t have any firm release data, but from what I saw, I’d say late summer at the very earliest. One of the other things I was able to get a peak at and listen to was the pro-dac which I must say sounded wonderful.

Since I really need the XMC-1's flexible bass management, waiting is about the only option I have, unless I want to go from my Marantz AV-8003 to the new Marantz AV-8801 at $3500 list. FYI if you choose not to wait. List price and purchase price can be quite different. I just helped a friend purchase an AV-8801 and the matching 7-channel MM-8077 amp from an authorized dealer for not much more than the $3500 list price. Marantz is running a deal with a very sizable discount if you purchase the pre/pro and amp on the same ticket. My buddy plans to sell the Marantz amp without opening the box so he can use his Emo amps. Which should lower his final price tag for the AV-8801 $1K+ below list price.

> still no pre pro or any explanation as to why its so delayed.
We all know it's because they can't get the UMC-1 loader to work on it... Sincerely /b

I realize he has a pair of Bag End subs, but that does not mean they need to be treated independently. Depends on the physical arrangement. The XMC-1 allows for true stereo subs. The front left bass info only goes to the left sub, etc. This is important for retaining good separation with the required 100Hz crossover. I can't tell from the manual if the UMC-1 allows for a maximum 250Hz crossover like the XMC-1 is supposed to (I would prefer full range, but I am not going to get it...)

(Subs in stereo I mean - rather than two playing a mono signal). Jim Smith talks a lot about this very principle in his book "Get Better Sound" as well...

Just curious. What will the XMC bass management do for you that the UMC-200 cannot? Thanks. Well one thing the XMC can do is EQ 2 subs independently (7.2 vs 7.1) Can it? But to the comment about the expensive Marantz 8801, the new Denon AVR-X4000 has the same or better setup capabilities for $1300 MSRP. If you ignore its amp section it's like it isn't there! (and it can eq two subs)

I will likely wait for the XMC-1 regardless... It has to come out some day Thanks

Well one thing the XMC can do is EQ 2 subs independently (7.2 vs 7.1) Can it? I'm sure it's possible to have a two channel signal that wouldn't have separate equalization for each channel, for instance you could design two equalizers who's controls were ganged such that any changes would be applied to both channels. But a 7.2 system is essentially 9 discrete channels, why would you go to the trouble of making the bass eq different than the rest of the outputs, this would seem more complex and expensive (and less effective). I seem to remember some XMC discussion from EmoFest about dual sub equalization, but I could be wrong, obviously we won't know for sure until it's released. Are there other x.2 systems where the bass is stereo, but the bass eq isn't independent?

In theory I have 4 subs, but 2 of them are stacked with my front L/R as large so I can adjust them independently for music. The other 2 are split off the single sub out for LFE for watching movies. Do they split the LFE signal to L/R in surround sound?

I love this setup so much, it sort of hurts. Got a soft spot for JBLs.
