I agree, despite our occasional bitchin' I'd highly recommend the upgrade for the corrections offered and to get the most out of it.

Has anyone noticed a difference in start-up sequence on the display. At start-up, the last firmware version displays "loading....." at the beginning. The new version displays "power on" and then the firmware level. I just trying to verify if everyone else is experiencing this so that I can rule out a bad firmware install. Thanks Edit: Maybe the difference has to do with if you are using CEC? I do not have any CEC capable devices connected. Very interesting. Mine shows the same sequence as before the update: First: Loading ............... Then: UMC-200 V1.52.02.39 Finally, it shows the input, amp triggers on, and volume ramps up. After I enabled the Standby Video option, I now get the "Power On" in the start-up sequence. Works great!

I had multiple failures using the methodology for updating the firmware detailed in the Emotiva document. Sensei and Denist's method of updating all of the components simultaneously is the only one that finally worked for me. The key (I believe) is the order of steps 6 and 7 that stipulates that you power on the unit from the master power switch in back, then plug in the USB, then bring the unit out of standby. This, of course after running the program and clicking all files. The closing of the installer program after each module did not work at all for my unit (one of the first UMC-200's to be shipped). It just resulted in the endless load loop and the failure of module 4. When I used the alternate method, suggested by KeithL, of updating module 4 first, module 4 would install, as would 1, 2, and 3, but I would get multiple DSP code mismatch errors. A funky, overly complex and fairly wonky firmware upgrade process, but I do love the unit. Sounds great!

After spending hours following Emotiva's update method to a T, and having the same issues as many others, I used the DENIST method and it worked right away. Thanks for all the help this board provides.

I have now tried this firmware update in seemingly every order humanly possible. I tried it to the EXACT word of the update PDF. My UMC-200 now reads 'Upgrade main CPU' no matter what I do. The first three files upload successfully, the fourth fails every single time.
Help!

Just make sure you have the reprogram button on when doing the denist's method which worked fine with me the first time . A copy of his method is as followed :
Just finished running emo q on my setup with beautiful results all distances except for the subwoofer were right on and the sound levels seems OK. I will Check them using a sound level tonight and report back. I used denist' Check list using my dell inspirons 5160 laptop running xp with sp3 upgrade. I used all files Check method with the reprogram checked.
If you get in trouble with the official steps, I believe Keith recommands only using the last file checked with this method and the other three modules using the official sequence.
Last night battle message
Good so far, using denist method for i was also stuck on the loading nag message with the 4th file showing fail. SUCCESS USING HIS METHOD THANKS..
Denist method as follows These are the steps I took
1:Power off umc from the back
2:Unplug USB cable only from Unit
3:Run twe program on your PC
4: Find upgrade file and click re program and select all files and hit start
5:A box saying USB comes up with all kind of glibberists
6:Power on umc from the back but Leave it on amber
7:Plug USB cable in the unit and power on umc 200
8:then the USB box disappears and it start loading on the 4Th file. Usually there will be all kind of missmatch osd warnings. Don't worry , mine completely dissapeared after all the other files were loaded.
9:Then it loads the rest from the top 1,2,3
10: make sure all files indicates successfull.
11:power down your UMC-200 from the back toggle and un plug the USB cable from the unit
12: power up the unit and don't forget the load defaults instructions at the end.
hopefully you're done
Many thanks to DENIST, actually I believe that this pdf may be of use if everything else fails Mel

Yup, I tried exactly that. No matter what I do File 4 Fails, at about .4% and the display continues to read "Upgrade Main CPU." Extremely aggravating - you think the guys at Emotiva would have taken a bit of initiative to fix this given the rampant nature of the problem!

Mine continued to fail for hours until I went from a USB 2.0 to a USB 3.0 port. Idk if that's key for everyone but it worked for me.

I'm trying to upgrade a new UMC-200 from 1.52.02.41 to 1.52.02.47 with Win XP. The updater installation went smoothly, but it crashes every time I select the update file:
Run-time error '6': Overflow
I've tried downloading it twice in case of corruption, and I've tested with two different USB cables. The updater's connected icon changes from disconnected to connected when the preamp powers on, so the cable is presumably fine. I also tried the "Denist method" above, but I still get the same run-time error on step 4. Anyone know why it won't let me select the update file?

I rebooted the computer and ran the software without a browser open, as I saw some recommendations elsewhere that that error indicates too many temp files in play, even if no other programs are running. The upgrade went smoothly after that!

These are the steps I took and it flashing the third one as I Power off umc from the back Unplug USB cable from pc Run twe program as admin Find upgrade file and click re program and hit start A box saying USB comes Up Power on umc from the back but Leave it as amber Plug USB cable in and the power on umc Them the USB box disappears and it start on the 4th file And then loads the rest from top 1,2,3 And done That was simple and took less than 10 minutes all together. All The hype about this had me nervous but it was very straight forward. I notice an instant improvement in sound quality without even running any calibration. My sub is suddenly way louder than before. And one thing I have noticed so far is it lists my Samsung TV by name now and my TV also seems to be staying connected via CEC which it would not before. Very grateful for your help it has settled a lot of my grief already. I'll touch back after getting further into it. Thanks so much!
