If you go to the Input settings menu you can select a few different modes but I think only for analog inputs, like 5 channel or 7 channel stereo, otherwise digital inputs are 2 channel or PLX movie or music. also analog inputs can cycle through stereo or bypass when pressing the 2ch button on the remote, so no it's not the same aas the UMC-1 in that respect. Does anyone know why there is no direct mode for digital inputs like the UMC-1 has ?? Chad That is exactly what I was looking for... Direct mode

Direct mode I have wondered why there is no direct mode but honestly the 7030 sounds good enough I don't think it's needed lol, and like I've mentioned using the analog out of my Oppo 103 to an analog input of the 7030 and using bypass(Direct) sounds terrific as well, or using the analog Multi 7.1 is always bypass and sounds fantastic with 2ch or Blu-ray.

You could adjust the crossover on the sub or the 103 allows for crossover settings as well.

Hi Everyone.... I got my PT-7030 5 days ago! I'm currently uploading my setup/theater on to youtube! It would include me going thru a bunch of the OSD My ID on youtube is MKBEntertainment, Since I'm uploading right now. The first video of my HT should be up in an hour, and the one with the OSD in 2-3 hours. Might help some new buyers I hope :3 I bought this processor for the XLR connections since it feels like a much more robust connection. btw, using a Parasound A21 Amp. The system now vs using my old 5-6 year yamaha on (straight) as a processor is wayyyyy better! I will post links when it's up.

Hey Steve welcome to the lounge, awesome vid of your system but please don't scare us like that, never unplug cables without powering down first as it could result in very bad things happening to the processor or amplifier, not trying to be bossy but just a word of advice. The PT-7030 is a very nice pre/pro imo, glad to see another join the 7030 club Chad

Nice projector too ; Ive got a very close cousin a tw9000 ; hard to see the green startup tinge on yours though Oh, had light on =P Very hard to go back to standard TV now &_& Hmm.. I didn't know that. I thought it just puts out a analog signal like a mp3 player and the amp just amplifies that and if there nothing, nothing would happen? Was just showing the click lock on the XLR. I would really like to know the details on how components get damaged that way Maybe someone can fill me in technical detail? I will take your advice though XD Those XLRs outputs, even though they are not fully balanced. I really think they should do it on every receiver simply because the connection is better. I see you quite a bit while browsing around for the last year or 2. Nice to meet you Chad!

What media player are you using ? I'm intrigued by the look of it. And where did you get the xlr cables from ? And thanks for taking the time to do something like that.

Really easy for organizing your playlist and fast too!

Well, been reading more and more on this Sherbourn 7030 and saw the 899 price now. I have the DMC-1 and an MPS 1, that have been flawless now going on 4-5 yrs. But its time to move to HDMI and I have been waiting for the new XMC 1 but this sure seems like a really good processor for the money right now.
I would more than likely still move to the XMC at some point. This would just buy me some time to see the XMC, and let it work through any issues for 4-6 months. So I will be calling in the morning to get more info as to whether its better to wait or not but I am sure giving it a lot of consideration right now. Then I need to maybe look to upgrading my MPS 1 and maybe go to a new amp as well next year.
Anyway, I already ordered a new HDMI cables so...May be here soon saying I ordered one!
Steve

Steve I'm not sure the differences between the mps-1 and the mps-2 but I'm petty sure you don't need to worry about amplifier upgrades any time soon (if it ain't broke don't fix it) my mps-2 is absolutely fantastic and after having spent my day watching the Harry potter series today I can say the pt-7030 is worth every single cent I payed for it if it sounds this good out of the box I can't wait to get playing with rew to see what it can really do. I strongly believe it sounds better without any calibration than my umc-1 did after running it's onboard room correction.

Well, the price drop coupled with the 40% card was enough to get me off the fence. I haven't been completely happy with my UMC-1 so looking forward to giving this pre-pro a try. The included Bluetooth is a nice bonus over the UMC-200...

I wouldn't even make the change if it were not for the HDMI switching, but the time has come.

Also can anyone tell me if the Balanced and unbalanced audio outputs are all active when the other is in use? I currently Bi-wire my front L and R Speakers.

I currently Bi-wire my front L and R Speakers. yes both are active at all times edit: quote from manual page 20 Note: 7.1 Balanced Outputs and 7.1 Unbalanced Outputs provide the same output signal, and both are always active. You may use unbalanced connections for some channels and balanced connections for others if desired. (To ensure the best possible audio fidelity, it is desirable to make connections symmetrical: connect both speakers of a given type - for example, both side surrounds - to similar amplifiers using the same type of connection.)

Thanks, I must have missed that as I was reading through the User Manual. The only last item is how this compares to the DMC 1 as I am very curious.

I haven't used a DMC-1 (my only experience with their older pre-pros is the LMC-1) but I would think that the Sherbourn would be a nice step up for you. Audioholics reviewed the DMC in 2005, so you know at the very least it is 8 years old. Processing power has come a long way in the last 8 years. Mark
