I just finished replacing my UMC-1 with the PT-7030. After going through the basic set up (I am not using the PEQ - perhaps later), here's what I don't like. 1) The remote is terrible in its layout - very unconventional. 2) You cannot set up the PT-7030 without the remote. 3) Its legacy inputs are only composite and component - no S-Video. As a result, my laserdisc player does not look as good on the screen. 4) My Kinetics iPad dongle does not have codes for Sherbourn, so I will have to do all the button programing myself - very time consuming. It does sound good and all 7.1 channels are working. I used the unbalanced outputs to the PA7-350 because the new balanced cables I ordered from Monoprice have not arrived. When they arrive I will be rewiring again. By the way, I used the Emotiva 7-RCA cable to wire from my OPPO BDP-83 analog outs to the PT-7030 analog ins. This cable is very nice and marked well for each of the 7.1 functions at both ends. You could try codes for Rotel. They are the builder of the 7030.

Unfortunately, the NewKinetix (I have their 'Re' device) catalog of IR codes does not include the Rotel RSP-1572 or any other Rotel that is close. So I am building my own template and learned code buttons which will work fine, but I'd better not loose or damage the original remote control.

Has anyone else noticed a drastic reduction in their subwoofer output after switching to this processor from the umc-1 ? I went from a PT-7020A (UMC-1) to a PT-7030 and yes the sub output is much less now. The test tones show the same DB on my spl meter but actual content is so low I thought my cable was broke. Originally on my PT-7020A the sub level was set at 0 and 9 o'clock on the subwoofer. To get the same output on the PT-7030 I had to set the level on the processor at +5 and 12 o'clock on the sub.

I'm sure once I configure the peq on the 7030 it will sound better.

Has anyone else noticed a drastic reduction in their subwoofer output after switching to this processor from the umc-1 ? Yes, I see this too. I level adjusted using the setup test tones and SPL meter. To match everything I had to turn down the Subs and set the level to Min. This was with the front speakers set to a +6. But when I actually play something, I need to turn the subs back up. My guess is the test tone for the sub is too high. I'm going to try level setting with tones from my HTPC.

Well, I was so tempted last night, but didnt get it,some of the new Krell Processors. Expensive, but really liked it and thought about just going completely high end again. In the end I pulled back as my 7030 is on the truck and should be here sometime today. SO I spent the morning tearing down everything and pulling out them DMC 1, had to watch 1 more movie with it this morning, what a great processor this has been for me. Sad to see it go!
So all ready to slip in the 7030 and already set the new OPPO, getting close... Hopefully will have music tonight, then spend tomorrow calibrating. Got my new Calibrated Mic from Hong Kong yesterday so ought to be fun!

So tonight I took it upon myself to try out the 7.1 analog input of the PT-7030 with 6 Emotiva RCA cables connected to the 7.1 analog out of my Oppo 103. I decided that the first Blu-ray disc I should try out is my Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds Live At Radio City, all I have to say is why didn't I try this sooner as it sounded so wonderful, the acoustic guitars were jumping out of the speakers with crispness and sharpness I haven't heard till now, I couldn't have the volume overly loud so can't wait to have the house to myself to crank it up nicely. I have to suggest that all 7030 owners with a good source like an Oppo or such to give this a try, I know this would defeat any room correction that you may have setup but I very much suggest giving this a try to see what you think, like I have mentioned before I am in love with the analog section in this pre/pro and found audio bliss tonight. Chad Chad, The oppo has a calibration for itself, try it. I think it will sound a little better if you can believe that . The Oppo has 8 analog outputs but I don't know about he7030 inputs. My Yamaha has 8 inputs and it's great with the Oppo, can't see what he DC--1 and he XSP-1. Peace

Got finished installing, all channels work, sounds good. Wiil be spending tomorrow going through some calibration. Processor is slow switching inputs, audio stutter after switching inputs, and jez the remote... wow, and the real OSD is a pain, you have to be on input 1 and it cuts off picture?. I tried those Rotel IR's mentioned earlier but they did not work so I saw some Sherbourn in the URC list, may try that tomorrow before I have to learn them all. This will get me by until the XMC or something else...

I think for the money its the best deal out there, plus you get the 40% card too. I would not pay 2700 for it, but 899 wow. I have to say now after about 4 hrs running, it sounds pretty decent out of the box, all I set tonight was speaker distances and thats about it. I figure tomorrow I will setup the Mic and start really setting up the sub again, and then the other channels.
But I do have to say, having HDMI switching is pretty cool. My DMC1 was a great piece and waited as long as I could, but had to do this.
More to come.

I think I figured it out tonight on the delay, its trying to switch from the Default to the right audio. Noticed it dropping during shows/commercials, and its because its losing the DD signal, prob from the source. Not sure its the processor although not sure why DPL Music is the default for all channels on a HT processor.

Can you use a Optical Digital from you TV set top box for the audio and keep the HDMI for your video. Chad

Thank you for that in-depth and excellent review, Andrew, and for the information you passed on regarding setup of this unit.
I just placed my order for the PT-7030. The closeout price was too good to pass up and I've been looking for a unit to replace my Integra DHC 40.1 for some time.
