Sounds better to me and more detailed. I am hearing things in the background that I did not hear before. Still have not fully calibrated yet. Did the basics this am setting speakers, and I see what folks mean on the sub. it has to be the test tone volume. Later I plan to set up the mic and set the sub anyway and set up the room correction, but I am impressed so far.
Also spent the morning learning my UMC remote. But I think it sounds much more dynamic. Heck its 7 years newer it should....

Tossed on some CD's sounds good. I saw a comment somewhere about skipping to the next song and the 1st second getting chopped, and did notice that as well, seems to happen every time as far as I can tell. I am using an OPPO BD103D too, so its not the player. But its no biggie really, just validating what I heard.

Also found you can customize the EQ Freqs, you are not locked into the 40, 60 100, etc... Cool! I am loving this more and more!

Congratulations, its really a great deal, the quirks are worth it for the money. I tried using my miniDSP Mic and running it via HDMI through the processor on input 1, but for some reason I cant get the tones from REW to pass, it shows it leaving and the PC shows it going to Rotel (too funny)so not sure whats going on. Unless the processor wont pass it, not sure. I had disconnected everything but the sub. THe only other thing I could think of was try another mode, but that didnt work for me.
I was able to use the pink noise from the processor to get a reading, which was interesting, most plots were below the curve, I cant believe I have a perfect room, so not sure what happened. But tried it 3x, same results. One day need to try and figure out why I cant pass it via HDMI. I could go back to going directly to speaker, but thought I would give the HDMI a try. Unless I have something set wrong, could be...

Just out of curiosity is the 1 second delay on just external CD players? I plan to hook my computer via optical inputs on receiver. Do you think I will have any issues with handshake on 7030? Is blue tooth adapter included?

Is blue tooth adapter included? The Blue Tooth adapter is included. I have had the 1 second delay with HDMI, optical and coax digital inputs...it does this with the signal from my CD player, network music streamer (Squeezebox Touch), and Blu-ray player. When streaming music from my Squeezebox Touch, there is a delay in locking on to the signal so the first second or so of every track is missed. Too bad, as I really like the 7030, the sound is incredible.

Did you make sure your sound card is set for HDMI out. Sometimes on my UMC-1 there was a handshake issue where I would have to switch inputs before the UMC-1 would see my computer. Sometimes I had to reboot the computer to get it to work.

Is the 1 second delay in between chapters or between songs? I would prefer to get the 7030 over the UMC-200 because of the balanced outputs going to my 2 main speakers and sub are powered. How noisy are the unbalanced outputs on the UMC-200? Oh by the way emotiva and Sherbourn your products look and from I have heard sound amazing.

The one second delay is between songs, chapters, etc. Basically anytime the signal is interrupted to the 7030 DAC.

Is the delay when manually selecting the chapter from a blu ray or on continuous playback as well? They should put out a fix for this.

The delay is also with continuous playback, like a CD or with my Squeezebox when streaming an album. I know others have commented on this as well but I do not think there is a fix coming for this

Seems like there should be a fix, the processor is still being sold.... you would think that they would get the firmware right. Love the sound, but this music thing bothers me. I even tried all the defaults just to be sure too.

According to Sherbourn/Emotiva tech support they will support the 7030 which includes updating the firmware for various fixes.
That being said I don't think this will be getting fixed. I had the Sherbourn 7020 and the delay before the processor locks on is also on the 7020. I have to say that the 7020 DOES lock on a lot faster than the 7030. Apparently they did update the firmware on the 7020 to minimize this issue. Emotiva decided to have the silent first second versus having audible pops in the first second. While I agree that the silence is MUCH better I still think that the performance of the 7030 should be brought up to the level of the 7020.
What do you guys think?
Joel

I agree completely especially occurring between chapters that would be very annoying when watching a movie. Would anyone we be able to record a demo of the sound cutting out on you tube?

I have never heard mine lose any signal during a movie but I haven't tried any music from a cd yet I use jriver on my pc and play it through the optical out, in jriver I have it set to overlap a second or two of each song so I never lose signal that way either

I am also going to be playing everything off my computer via optical.

The sound will not drop out when you watch a movie straight through. It will drop out when you are watching a movie and you change the chapter forward to the next chapter. It is quite easy to test and recognize. it is less obvious on movies for two reasons. One is because there isn't constantly things making noise like during a song and secondly when you sit down to watch a movie that is 2 hours long you won't notice if you have a 1 second drop out a the beginning. Here is an easy test for you if you have the bluray Oblivion. Start watching the movie and skip to chapter 3. At the very beginning of chapter 3 there is a drone ship that flies by. If you skip to the chapter you will not hear the ship fly by even though that information happens in chapter 3. If you go to chapter 3 and rewind for 10 seconds or so then let it play you will hear the ship fly by. I'm pretty sure it is chapter 3. After the ship flies by Jack/Tom Cruise will be sitting on the edge of a cliff and watering his little plant.

I watch bluray and stream through my oppo from the hard drive never noticed an issue but after the crap I put up with from the umc 1 this unit is a dream to listen to. I was even able to watch total recall without any audio dropouts(previously unwatchable on umc1) so I've been listening to a cd here for a bit and I'd be surprised if it even takes a full second for the 7030 to lock on to the audio signal I listen on the oppo connected via hdmi
