Ok this is really weird tonight.... We were watching a movie and all of a sudden it didnt sound right, So I went to test tones and they were all backwards, Left was Right, and LR was RR, very weird. so first thing I did once I validated something was wrong was shut it down and rebooted it all, and it all came back right. Anyone ever have this happen?
Never have I ever had something like this happen before but its back to normal now. Its like the processor was outputting to the wrong channels... Very strange... not sure what to say.

I had my soundstage turn 90 degrees to the right while watching Star Trek into darkness and then my front left and right coming out of my side surrounds watching after earth while using my umc-1 and letting the oppo do the decoding but never with the sherbourn unit however I did lose about 2 seconds of audio half an hour ago while watching the dark knight

Ok, and I was using my new OPPO BD103D, but once I shut down the processor it corrected itself, I did not shut down the OPPO... so, it sounds like it was the processor. strange, but keep you posted.... This thing definitely needs a new firmware update though, to sort all this out.

Thats why I went to test tones in the processor right away and they were backwards, so it had to be the processor, until I rebooted it. just crazy.

I'm glad I held onto my credit card when the temptation was strong. Hope the XMC-1 is bug free. This stuff is just ridiculous.

Mine runs 99.5 percent without issue and the few bugs I've experienced are not uncommon among other units on the market.

I tried all day sunday and was unable to get a test tone to pass from the software to the speakers. I was trying the HDMI out and I have to figure out one day if there are other options I need to set. I did try using the test tone from the processor, but kept getting low readings, so figured I would try looking into it further when I am back from vacation.

Just courous how Sherbourn PT-7030 compare to marantz AR7005? I had the Marantz AV7005 for 2 years and never had any issues with it. I found the user interface, network access / streaming, and dynamic listening modes to be an advantage over the 7030, however, the sound (especially 2 ch), is superior with the 7030. A few things I have noted in comparing the two units; Marantz - no delay when switching inputs or when streaming music, ethernet port for network acces, GUI, auto room EQ (Audyssey XT), remote is better Sherbourn 7030 - sound is much better (both analogue sources and digital), P-EQ is very tweakable but does take some experimenting and practice, but it does have a very dated user interface and the 1 -2 second delay between music tracks or when starting to watch a movie/tv show can be very annoying. If sound is the most important factor, then the Sherbourn IMHO is the winner.

Tried again but still cant seem to get test tones from REW via HDMI, has anyone else been successful at this using HDMI? I could just go to each speaker and try that, but it seems there is some driver or setup parameters that need to change maybe.

Andrew, I know it's not advertised, so I guess that it doesn't have it but; is there any chance that there is any balanced signal path inside the 7030. I know that there is balanced ins and outs, and I was just thinking how wasteful it would be not to have a balanced path hiding in there. The PT-7030, while possessing balanced outputs is not a fully balanced design. If you're looking for a fully balanced multi-channel preamp you're either going to have to look at some of the older reference Mark Levinson products (no HDMI though) or older Krell (same issue(s)). Emotiva's XMC-1 AV preamp is going to be fully balanced however Andrew, Or others --- Can you elaborate on this post. Is the PT-7030 unit balanced XLR outputs - as in it would do of benefit to buy XLR connections to XLR amp inputs, or is it just unbalanced wiring using Balanced connections - so RCA would be just as good? This question is in regards to hooking the PT-7030 up to a Sherbourn 7-350 amp. Thanks for the clarification!

Can anyone help me get the Remote Inputs (Z1-Z4) to work? Manual stated (page 9) "connect of of these inputs to the output of a remote IR receiver" and on page 43 "a direct input from an IR detector (eye) connected to one of the rear-panel connectors. I tried connecting a xantech IR receiver directly to the z1 input, didn't work. Called product support and was told the input needs to be connected via a powered connecting block and a 2 conductor mini-plug. Tried that and it does not work. Any helpful tips are greatly appreciated. The manual is very unclear. Thanks, Ron

I GOT MY SHERBOURNE 7030 woohoo, first Emotiva product since my UMC-1 4 years ago.
Nice heft to it this baby. At 39 pounds shipped the box was solid, no damage. Unboxing showed it was double boxed so well protected. The unit comes in a black cloth bag very classy. Taking it out it most certainly is taller, and heavier than my former UMC-1. It has a really clean look very stylish. A multitude of connections I was very impressed. Loved the balance outputs, and the two channel balanced inputs.
I got my unit on Wednesday, fired it up and I was like wow this is definitely an upgrade. The sound was way more open and a depth to the vocals was there. It sounded great. I was listening to Adele's first album 19, first track. I put on some Diana Krall and it is a beautiful thing with the soundstage giving me a you are there feeling. I am coming from the UMC-1 and I loved the sound, but wow this makes me happy.
That is until I went to set up. The interface is really poor, it lacks the options and ease of use of the UMC-1. With the UMC-1 you could go into input set up and change whatever was coming in to whatever signal you want. With this it's extremely limited in your choices.
Running SACD through my PS3 it correctly displays the higher resolution. Unfortunately the sound skipping would remove a star for a rating. Nothing worse than choosing a song and missing the first couple of notes. I tried playing Flac files through my computer and had no issue with the tracks even if I stopped and started again no skipping. What I did have was a processor glitch where after I tried to change the default to PCM2 I only got static. I reboot remedied this and then it happened again. Another reboot and it hasn't happened since so it must have been testing me.
I found the remote reminded me of the original UMC-1 remote before they gave us the metal tank. It's very cheap and the buttons are soft and trashy.
I was trying to calibrate my speakers and my volume for 70db reads 75 on the dial was wondering if that was high or normal for the unit. As I calibrated I wanted to see what the volume was and to my surprise the volume buttons don't work while in the setup menu. This unit was $2000, extremely poor execution. Whether it is a sister company under an umbrella, whatever, I purchased this unit cause I stand by the name of this company, EMOTIVA. When things are wrong they make things right, they are generous and have customer loyalty with the upgrade program. Why let a product out that while does not bear your name directly still represents your excellence in products. This is supposed to be a flagship Pre-Pro.
This Pre-pro has excellent sound I love it but the interface and remote really hold it back, top that with sound drop-outs and 3 to 4 seconds for the menu to pop up makes this unit very frustrating. I really feel like they treated this unit like a step-child and missed a great opportunity. I hope Big Dan can assure us that we are not left out in the cold with this unit. If in fact it does come back as a Emotiva model please make it right with a firmware upgrade.
No skipping Proper Interface Volume Control During Menu Display Menu comes up faster than 3 to 4 seconds.
I would not recommend this unit go for the UMC-200. I hear the interface is more user friendly

The volume does work during the menu you just can't see the readout and mine is about the same for the test tones at 70db

I'm in the same boat as the two of you. My master volume is set at 70 and my front left and right are pretty close to zero. I believe they are at -1 if memory serves me. That is what 6 ohm speakers and a Sherbourn PA 7-350. I didn't use the internal generated pink noise for the sub as I don't believe it is accurate. So I ended up using the Disney WOW blu ray to redo all of my levels.

jeffreymercado u said u played flac files off your computer with no skipping. Are you running to the sherbourn via optical? Is there still a pause before track?
