After unboxing the impressively heavy amp, I hooked all the connections up and gave it a try. I got to admit, my first impression wasn't that of being overwhelmed. My other was asleep on the couch and I kept it lowered. Finally I got the chance to turned it up. Meh! Then it dawned on me. For the longest time, I had been listening to music from my IPOD. For hahas, I put a Loggin's and Messina cd in. Sweet chocolate baby Jesus!!!! I love the sound but can't say whether it was because of changing the source or the amplifier. Either way I am happy with the set up. Yamaha RX-A2010, B&W 802N, OPPO BDP103 and of coarse the XPR-2. Currently the amp is plugged into a 15 amp circuit and will change it out when able to. I am also using 2 /14 gauge wires each for the ground and positive per speaker. I still have to figure out how to get the internet working on the receiver to get napster.

Ahhh, yes I have several generations of ipods. As an audiophile source they suck. I would reccomend an XDA-2 connected directly to the XPR-2 for best quality over your yamaha. Especially because of your excellent speakers. Or the oppo 103 direct to your XPR-2 IF the oppo103 has a volume control. Not sure if it does.

The Oppo has a very good volume control and can be directly connected to the XPA-2...

Yep. Get rid of the AVR ASAP. In the mean time, make sure the Yamaha is in "Pure Direct" mode when you use it. It will make a significant difference.

Looks like that RX-A2010 has a form of room correction. I've found that when I defeat mine (on the Denon 3808) I get marked decrease in the accuracy of my system. I have a pretty atypical room, and I'm sure there are some peaks and valleys, but it simply does not sound as good when I put it into pure direct mode from my blu-ray player.
Does the 103 have room correction? I know that is an awesome player and if it does, even manual correction, going straight to your amp would give you the best results with a CD/DVD as the source. I noticed a similar subjective difference when I went from streaming lossless audio from my apple TV to listening to the actual disc.
How did you have the ipod hooked up to your AVR? Was it via USB? I presume it was given that Yamaha has the made for ipod logo.

You made an excellent choice in purchasing XPR-2. I think it's a great sounding amp.I own one,but I think you would be better off using at least 12AWG or 10AWG speaker cables with it.It will give you more solid bass boost...

Interesting inconsistency. In the XPR-1 manual, page 11 says "at least 12 gauge", but then on the very next page: "Always use high-quality speaker wire of reasonable gauge (10 gauge or heavier)."

I've tried the pure direct mode and the sound is aweful however I never played with the Oppo. Two 14's should be larger than a 10, no?

The Yammy RX-A2010 is a nice sounding AVR with a good room correction system in it (Yamaha's newer version of YPAO). It should be able to make a positive difference for you...just follow the manual's set up instructions. (And yes, two 14s should be plenty).

I would get two 12 guages. I compared a 12 guage with a 18 guage wire (both standard cheapo wires). The 12 guage was significantly better even in low volume passages.

I'm using Belden 5000 series 10 gauge speaker wire that I bought in bulk from BlueJeansCable. This cable is a perfect fit for the GLS locking bananas.

Thanks, I wasn't sure what the equivalent was. At some point I'll get the bigger cables.
