New Panasonic plasma flat panel just delivered!!! Wooohooo! ;D Now all I'm waiting for is my friend to come over so we can lift it on to the stand. Congrats! and welcome to the club!!! Thanks Brian, the 60in ST60 has retired my 50in GT20 to the bedroom. Now I feel real spoiled with a 50in in the bedroom. ;D I've been putting the ST60 through it's paces today and out of the box in "HomeTheater" mode it looks quite good, but I'm sure Chad B will be making this set shine in two more weeks time. I've tried the 3D, with the Avenger 3D blu-ray, and well I'm quite impressed, it looks just as good as the local IMAX, only smaller. Depth, blacks and brightness seem quite good for 3D. When I'm not watching, I'll be running the color slides that Chad has recommended.

Hey lcseminole! - Just out of curiosity, since you're now SO CLOSE (at 60"), why didn't you just go for the 65" ST60???

Hey lcseminole! - Just out of curiosity, since you're now SO CLOSE (at 60"), why didn't you just go for the 65" ST60??? $900: I just couldn't justify the difference for 4.9in more. I could've afforded the average asking price of $2399 for the 65in but I've seen the difference in sizing from the 50/55/60/65 in person and the 60in is definitely the sweet spot, where going for a 55in just wasn't enough change in size. Besides I'm about to buy a new refrigerator, and throwing another $900 at a 65in just didn't add up for me. I also plan for this to be my last plasma flat panel until Ultra HD sets are actually reasonably priced, which I figure will be another 3 or 4 plus years.

Thanks LCSe.. I'll look around at ISF Forum. Though I'm big on "I used this tech, good guy, good results" kind of referrals. BTW, I have a Samsung 8000 Series (LED) in the 55"; I'm mad I didn't get the 60" -- the 65" cost more than my Panasonic AE8000. I left enough room between my UAW 8.2s to fit the 60". It's own my wish list. If I want anything bigger than that I go downstairs.

I'm having Chad Billheimer calibrate my new plasma two weeks from today, his website is: www.hdtvbychadb.com/I'll be glad to tell you what I think after the calibration, but I'm not sure if he travels in your neck of the woods or not. There are many good calibrators that travel and have regular yearly schedules for areas, so try looking at the HidefJunkies forum and on AVS Forum as well, as many of the calibrators contribute on a regular basis.

Wooow did I sturrrr up a friary topic. Haven't been by the site in a week and bamm. As usual the debate has been free spirited and based on honest option rather then emotional banter. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Looks like I have some reading todo. Thanks for all the responses!!

Chad Billheimer completed my calibration an hour and half ago and I am a very happy camper. He explained everything that he was doing, showed me his readings and explained what they meant, and took the time to show me what to look for on screen. I had the pleasure to watch him perform an audio calibration at a friends (Lounge member Tbro40) yesterday and he was just as thorough doing his audio calibration as he was doing my video calibration. He is definitely a professional and knows his stuff, magic is what I call it, and I HIGHLY recommend to anyone that hasn't had their plasma flat panel calibrated to do so, as well as his audio calibration.

Congratulations Laurence. I hope you are as happy with yours as I have been with mine.

I figure this is the right place, even though there hasn't been activity in a long while. A year ago I upgraded from a 12 year old Panasonic 58" plasma to an LG CX 77" OLED. I got the one year Calman for LG home license for $145. Unfortunately, although they said Spyder X colorimeter is supported, it only works for LCD so I bought the XRite meter. After putting at least 200hrs on the TV, calibration the first time brought the errors from 7-15% down to 0.5-1.9%. So now - 10 days before the license expires - I figured I'd calibrate again with version R4 of the software. I found that the SDR calibration had drifted up to 1-3.8%, but after calibration it came back down to the past levels. I don't know if it will drift this much per year, or if it is now stable, or if it will drift more. But the picture is awesome and I at least know calibration made a difference. HDR did not change that much. The way Dolby Vision works with internal pattern generators, you can't do pre and post measurements. The whole process of calibrating SDR, HDR and DV takes about 4hrs, mostly unattended. SDR took 2hrs, HDR 40min, DV 20min. Images of calibration results can be seen here ... marclombardi.zenfolio.com/p78397004/hc7f294d#hc7f294d

I do know enough to know what are good measurements and seeing a DeltaE <3 is good and virtually imperceptible at that point. So your calibration obviously gave great results. Just curious, the HDR 60 window, was this a problem area?...as pre and post calibration seems to be your only difficulty.

Just curious, the HDR 60 window, was this a problem area?...as pre and post calibration seems to be your only difficulty. Thanks! I was hoping to get some feedback like that. I struggled to find an ISF calibration service in my area so I decided to use Calman. Odd that it would be hard in a big city area like Philly but I just couldn't find one that looked better than Geek Squad. Honestly I'm not familiar with all the measurements and terms. When I did the original measurements and saw the difference from before to after calibration was like a factor of 10 or more, I assumed it was worth doing. The slight change from last year to now seemed very small so I was pleased with that. But the actual calibration process runs automatically, so I wasn't doing any manual adjustments to try to get specific values. I did wonder why that range was higher and remembered that on the video tutorial the guy mentioned that a rise around the 70 window was normal due to the HDR Gamma curve and the TV rolling off highlights. Among the challenges I had last summer was that the instructions on the software pages were out of date, as were several online tutorials. I finally found a set of tutorials made in Jan 2021 and they made sense and I was able to complete the calibrations. www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4tEYNq00Lo

Unless you have a professional locally, there are ISF calibrators that travel. You just have to get on there wait list until they have a tour setup for your area. It's only worth it to them if they have enough calibrations in an area to make the trip.
