I have the Airmotiv6s and I have made both the RCA connection (from my receiver) and XLR connection (from the XDA-2). As the Stealths have a multi-connector I don't see how I can make both connections at the same time. This is a downer as I was considering upgrading to the Stealths. Use the HT bypass feature of the XDA-2.

Hi Monkumonku -
NICE review - Thanks. Now for my question: Are the Stealth 8's good enough that I'd be happy foregoing upper-end "standard" speakers? Assuming that the Stealths were used with a capable subwoofer, how good are they compared to speakers that I'd consider "world class."
My list of "world class" (within the limits of my budget) would include models such as:
PSB-Synchrony One Magnepan 3.7 or 20.x Martin Logan CLS Klipsch La Scala 2 Revel Studio Salon KEF Reference
Tastes vary, but you get the idea. Where, in the pantheon of "ultimate best speakers" do the Stealth 8's reside? Obviously, this is a TOTALLY subjective question, but I trust your ears and your opinions enough to care what you might think. The bottom line would be: Would it be imprudent to even consider switching from a standard power amp plus speakers set to the self-powered Stealths?
Enquiring idiot minds like mine want to know...

Well you may be asking the wrong person since I've never heard any of the speakers you listed above except perhaps the Martin Logan but I am not sure which model it is I heard. The ones I heard were about 8 feet tall and sounded great but I don't know what model it was. From my experience, the Stealth 8's don't really need a sub for music if your room doesn't present problems with placement. The reason I use subs is because where the Stealth's are placed has has some low frequency dropout issues. Because of the room layout I have to keep them in the same general vicinity and that entire area has bass/low frequency issues relative to my seating position. When I go up close to listen, though, there is no lack of bass from the Stealths. Anyway, taking into account I haven't heard the speakers you listed and my main experiences are from hearing the speakers at the Newport Beach audio show recently, as well as speakers I've owned, I would say that the Stealths hold their own against much more expensive speakers. I feel that they present an accurate presentation of the source material - no particular range seems to be emphasized or de-emphasized; I wouldn't characterized it as a warm or bright speaker but more neutral/natural. I like having built-in bi-amping in a relatively compact space. The main drawback to me is that if I decide to get different speakers (but everyone here knows that I am not one to change speakers very often ) then that means I have to also get amps, too, unless I replace these with some other powered speaker. I don't plan on replacing these anytime soon, however (and even if I did plan on it my wife would hit me with a frying pan). I really like the Stealths. I say try them for the 30 days and see for yourself, although if you did decide to return them the freight would be pricey. I think they are excellent speakers and quite a bargain even at their regular price.

Thanks, Monkumonku - I see that there are also some other Stealth speakers that appear to have the same driver complement but only half the power. Is there a difference that you know of other than ultimate loudness capability?

Is there a difference that you know of other than ultimate loudness capability? You're welcome! As for other Stealths - I am not sure what you mean about having the same driver complement. The 8's are the only ones with the 8" woofer although they share the same tweeter as the 6's, I think. Maybe you are referring to the Airmotiv 6's versus the Stealth 6's? Aside from comparing specs, I guess you'd have to speak with someone at Emotiva like Nick. I know when I spoke with him and Lonnie, they both said there's a big difference between the two lines. I am using the Airmotiv 5's as surrounds and there's no comparison between those and the Stealth 8's - the latter are clearly better but then they ought to be given the size/drivers/amps.

My bifocals betrayed me again - I read the "6" and the "8" on the two Stealth models as both being six inch woofers. Now if I could just mistake my wife for Cindy Crawford...

Thanks - Boomzilla

OK, Monkumonku - You've lived with them for awhile now - FURTHER IMPRESSIONS? Thanks - Boomzilla No further impressions - I listened to them again today and am very pleased. Actually I only listened to 4 Diana Krall tracks and then watched a couple of movies (one of them being the original Star Wars on BD). I am very happy with my purchase! The Diana Krall tracks sounded superb - wonderful articulation of the instruments, natural sounding, detailed, and her vocals sounded in the room and also very natural. Imaging is great. I have only good things to say about these speakers. As for the movies - again they sounded great and the dialog through the center Stealth is clear and easy to understand. So... just get 'em and hear for yourself!

Well, all I can say is I love my Stealths and think that sale price is crazy. I paid $30 more for each of mine which was still a crazy good price. But price considerations aside, they simply sound great.

Once my Cornwalls sell, the Stealths are next on my "want to try" list. The only thing that might interfere is a pair of Magnepans.
Yeah - I DO like both blondes & brunettes!

Do the Stealth 8's have grills or are grills an option?
