About restocking fees: I don't really know of too many products where you get to "try before you buy" - especially high end ones (except for things like cables where, face it, there isn't much labor involved, and there's lots of profit margin). Virtually every internet direct audio company I can think of has an 30, 60, and some a 90 day home trial. A few even provide return shipping. But hey, it's you're company, you market how you see fit.

To extend the test drive of a car analogy a little further….. I've RENTED cars I was interested in so I could have one for the WEEKEND. Not exactly a 10% restocking fee, but not a freebie, either. I rented a Miata before buying and the wife will rent a Fiat500 prior to plunking down the cash. You can rent many cars for your own test without having to buy the darn thing.
Why NOT with audio? Company can have some '30 day renters' with say…..1/2 the rent being applicible to the purchase price (at full pop) or some such arrangement. Send the rental piece back…..after finding it's ok, your NEW piece is shipped and appropriate adjustments / payments made and you're golden. If you don't want the new one, you are out the rent and one-way shipping or whatever arrangment has been made.

You already get this in the 30 day return policy. all you are out is the return shipping and you get to try it for 30 days (minus return shipping time). Plus you are trying a brand new amp.

I dont see how anybody could have a problem with a restocking fee on anything they buy , especially hifi equipment , alot of 2 channel guys ( myself included ) like to try out different gear , not to fit a specific need but just for the fun of it , i bet ive tried atleast 100 pcs of gear in the last 20 yrs that i bought & after a week or so flipped on audiogon or ebay , knowing right from the start the gear was being bought for a test drive , sometimes i lost a few bucks in the deal but thats part of the hobby , i am not alone in rolling gear either , i know a dozen guys who try out gear the same way , spend some time at audiogons forums & see how common place equipment rolling really is .
What would happen if Emotiva announced a 30 day no questions asked 100% refund period on their tube line ? the company would be flooded with returns from gear rollers & curious , but not before they drove the crap out of the amp's , not to mention the wear & tear on the tube sockets from a 30 day user rolling his entire collection of tubes thru the amp , now the manufacturer has to bear the cost of having a technician go entirely thru the amp to see if anything has been done where the amp wont hold it's bias & other issues that are not attributed to solid state gear , such a policy would wreck havoc on the company trying to keep costs down , all buyers would have to bear a substancial cost increase , lastly the company would have a buttload of B stock or get a reputation for selling used gear as new , either way the manufacturer bears all the costs involved so how is that fair ?
Everybody who is curious about tube gear because the look of those kt88's shining bright would come out of the woodwork & order 1 of everything ,For anybody new to tubes an investment of multiple thousands of dollars on their 1st or 2nd time with tubes isnt a good move , especially if it's with tube amp's meant for a home theater system , most manufacturers will only take a return of tube gear if it's defective & send a replacement , a fee of 15% is not an excessive cost for a buyer to bear .
