Curious if anybody has listened to these? Yes. They're like mini 805Ds. Very smooth, open and natural in their tone. Not a lot of bass, but from the mid-bass up their coherence is addictive. Soundstage monsters. Very nice, little mini-monitor. Like all Bowers & Wilkins they do need some power to do their thing.

I've auditioned them as well. I agree with what Andrew said. I'll add that they were pretty quiet (IIRC 86 dB sensitivity) and that their finish is absolutely gorgeous. Perfect for a small room.

Within their frequency range they are a great little speaker, But they are very easily overdriven. For the price of this speaker and the matching stands I would look at finding a deal on the 805d's.

I have not heard these speakers, but have heard the 805D and agree that they are a great speaker. I don't know about the cost of this particular speaker but at a MSRP of about $2,500 each for the 805D there are a lot, a lot better speakers out there with similar foot print for a lot less.

I'll see you this, B&W PM1 and raise you this Phase Tech PC-1.5. I got mine brand new for $450 and you can reasonably expect to pay $780 at a brick and mortar store. Looks like a trip to Hi Fi Buys in Nashville to go head to head (last time they asked me not to bring these in again as they don't carry them and too many people were asking me about them).

Hi Milslap195 I have owned a pair of these fantastic speakers for over a year now. I have not heard anything even close in price that delivers such a beautiful, lush, soundstage, shimmering highs and an excellent midrange I have a B&W subwoofer to beef up the lows and the PM1s have the factory stands.
They do love power though. Luckily Emotiva has amps with TONS of watts. I am driving mine with an XPA-2 Once I put in my Audio Note tube preamp, the " air" and depth just got so much better.
PM1s come highly recommended Pebo

I'm seeing a internet price of about $2,000 for the pair that, while cheaper than the MSRP of 805, puts them in some really nice speaker company price wise.

At the time of my post, I was quoted at a B&M store of $780 (not including tax) for a pair.

Hi stieh11 I had a good listen over a number of weekends to Monitor Audio GX100, ProAc Response D1 and even the 805D. I found the MA very flat and dry the ProAc while very nice had a fat bottom end that really detracted from an overall beautiful speaker. The B&W 805Ds were too clinical and again "dry" I loved the lush sound of the PM1s and even though bass shy were a beautiful balance and unbelievably detailed and spatial in their presentation. They really are little 800Ds ( not in the same league, but the same " flavour) The PV1D added the " foundation" missing from the PM1s Note that I have an upstairs office for this stereo listening system and big speakers were not going to work. I have some very big custom made Timberwolf transmission line speakers ( Ascension Loudspeakers in Adelaide) downstairs in my HT. They have a similar balance to the PM1s ( but HUGE bass extension to 20HZ ) but cannot match them for soundstage and space, although close! All in all the PM1s just want to make me listen to music, which is really what it is all about The sound is, for want of a better word, .............Juicy!

Hi milsap195 I run the PV1D with the factory preset for PM1s although I have attenuated it by 3db and have rolled off the Sub at 20HZ. Yes In Australia the price I paid in total for PM1s stands and Sub was $4500AUD. The PV1D came later as I was quite happy for many months with the PM1s alone. Then I got the Timberwolfs downstairs ( 30HZ -28KHZ with useable bass to 20HZ) and really wanted more bass upstairs So I negotiated hard and got the PV1D for AUD $1500 brand new. What I have is a beautiful, compact and gorgeous sounding 2.1 stereo system with some awesome electronics driving them. (Emotiva XPA-2 and hand built Audio Note tube preamp) and I didnt get a hernia carrying them up the stairs, and I dont have to look at huge boxes in my small office ( 5m x 4m) Regards Pebo

Sorry milsap195 I forgot to mention that the PM1 and PV1D setup is very sweet sounding.
I get all the air and soundstage depth that the PM1s are nearly unmatched for AND the foundation of a very fast and musical subwoofer, without cabinet colorations and sloppy bass that usually accompany full range loudspeakers in this price range.
There are some shortcomings. I don't believe the Sub to speaker overlap is seamless and cant be as integrated as a full range loudspeaker But we are talking a full range speaker many times the size, and likely more expensive
All in all, if you are tight on space, this is a very musical setup that looks great and is compact, with a voice much bigger than its size suggests.
Regards Pebo

I have listened to the PM1s at my local Magnolia multiple times. They have them extremely under powered and still sound absolutely fantastic. I recently took my Diana Krall SACD in the store and we listened to half the album on the PM1s.
I like them very much. They have a great reproduction of both male and female vocals. The mids are smooth, full, and rich. It's the tweeter that steals the show though. They are very attractive speakers as well. I agree at 2k a pair there is a world of speakers out there, but give these little monsters some good power I don't think anyone could really shake a stick at them.

Totally agree Pop They are rated at 100 watts I initially used the Rotel pre/power combination at 200 watts PC and they opened up. Now running them with XPA-2 (300 watts PC) and they are really on song. The extra power makes them sound totally uncompressed and dynamic. The tweeter is indeed the star with a top end above 30KHZ without the beaminess and dryness of ribbons As I have said before, great little speakers Pebo

The PM-1's are very good indeed. Play much louder than expected. For two-channel applications, these speakers seem to just disappear. For movie soundtracks, they are very good too. But two-channel is really where they shine.

It's so expensive though. Can it get down to 80 hz with authority?

Yes they can. You need an amp with enough juice though - any Emotiva amp will make them sing.

Came across a used pair with the stands for 1900 and didn't pull the trigger. Been kicking myself ever since.
