Hello All,
I am looking at buying my first Amp (XPA-5) and my first Emotiva product. I currently running an Integra DTR-40.4 (currently for sale) and Monitor Audio Silver RX-6 L/R, RX6 Centre, and RXFX. Does anyone have any reviews/recommendations of how the XPA-5 and the RX-6s sound together?
Thanks
Kevin

I own 2 XPA-5's to power my Monitor Audio RS-8's. I have been quite pleased with this combo. I tried them on a AVR just to see what they would sound like and I will say that the amps do a much better job of breathing life into them. Bigger sound and more authority. The XPA-5 powered them with ease while the AVR seemed to run out of juice at higher levels.

Thanks for the info. Do you bi-amp them?

Thanks for the info. Do you bi-amp them? Yep. It isn't necessary though. If you are looking into getting just 1 XPA-5 it will suit you just fine.

Hey Kevin,
Just seen your thread, been a busy weekend and haven't been on much, when I first purchased my RX6's I was running them on a Yamaha RXV-1065 receiver which seemed alright at the time, stumbled across Emotiva UPA-5 on a used site but was already sold so I took a look at the Emotiva website and jumped on 2 brand new UPA-1's and haven't looked back since, I know it's what you tend to hear a lot but it sounded as if my speakers had a blanket taken away between the speaker and me, just sounded clearer with a better soundstage and more dynamics, I find it hard to explain but in layman's terms was just wayyy better. I have ran UPA-1's, UPA-500, UPA-200, XPA-5 and now an XPA-2 and they all sound amazing, I have found the UPA-1's and XPA-2 to be my favorite's but in all honesty I'm not sure I can hear any major difference's in these amps then the bass being controlled better with the more powerful amps as I do like to play it loud at times,
The RX6's are middle of the pack when it comes to efficiency so they really aren't too hard a speaker to drive, the XPA-5 is one amazing amplifier and I wouldn't have sold it but I got a PA 7-150 amp with 10 year warranty so thought I might as well sell the XPA-5, the XPA-5 had no problem driving my L, R, C and surrounds to reference levels and sounding good doing it, I can't say anything bad about my Emotiva amps running my MA Silver's.

Thanks for all the inputs. I wish I could go with mono blocks, but funds and space prevent that from happening... at least for now.
Chad,
Do you notice any difference between the XPA-5 and the PA 7-150? Did you get the combo deal with the PT-7030 and PA 7-150? What do you think of the PT-7030?

I'm finding the DAC in the PT-7030 a nice step up from the UMC-1, playing CD's through my ERC-1 I prefer the DAC in the 7030 over the ERC-1...it's that good. The PA 7-150 is a great amp so far, only thing I wish it had are the higher quality binding posts of the XPA series as I had one of the red positive plastic caps come off when tightening down some wire, otherwise sound wise it's very nice, I had Kill Bill playing on Blu-ray last night and was sounding really good.
I'm only using 3 of the 7 channels when watching movies so power is not an issue, can't tell a difference between it and the XPA-5 so far and yes I got the combo deal, one of the best deals in audio right now for sure.

Since the XPA-5 is unavilable, I am looking at either the PA 5-200 or the PA 7-150. I am thinking I will get the PT-7030/PA 7-150 combo deal with my 40% discount card. I will probably end up trying to sell the PT-7030 and just keep using my Integra DTR 40.4 until I can find a buyer for it. Thought/recommendations?

Thoughts/recommendations are keep the PT-7030 and PA 7-150 and sell the Integra Oh and by the way you can't combine the 40% card with the free amp, but it's a better deal getting the free amp rather then using your upgrade card, I saved my card for the XMC-1 and I will then sell the 7030 or XMC, that will be determined in the future

Or ask if they will give you the PA 5-200 instead of the PA 7-150 if you don't need the 7 channels

Now i'll just have to figure out how to connect it on my Integra DTR-40.4 You would use the RCA unbalanced preouts to the RCA's on the XPA-5, you could call Emotiva back and order 5 RCA interconnects in the length you need. Also Bluejeans cable or Monoprice has a large assortment of cables. This is a good deal from Emotiva RCA 1 Meter Snake

I have read you can use component cables to connect the amp to a receiver. I have some monster component cables I was planning on using for now. Eventually I plan on selling the Integra and buying the XMC-1 and connecting with the balanced interconnects.

I think the XPA-5 would work great with the Monitor audio RX. I have the XPR-5 with monitor audio GS60 and GSLCR and this sounds fantastic. Was at first a bit afraid it would sound too bright as Monitor audio can sound a bit bright but this is not the case.
Enjoy.
