So today was quite the day. My new speakers unexpectedly arrived at the FedEx dock today rather than tomorrow. I decided that since they were just sitting 30 min away I should probably just go get them . One giant crate and some new tie downs later my new Revel Performa3 F208's arrived at the house. Wow it's been a very very long time since I purchased a brand new speaker that I almost forgot how over the top some companies go to protect their speakers (I will add some pics in a few min). Secondly I had an appointment with an Audiologist this morning to get some impressions done of my ears. First thing he did was look deep into my ears at the ear drums. One side had a huge chunk of wax that was way down by my drum. He said it looked like it had been there for the past 10 years based on color hue. Wow what a relief, I didn't even know it was there let alone bothering me until he pulled it out lol. He did comment that I couldn't have gotten to it without the tools he had, which did make me feel a little less bad about myself . The coolest thing was that after he took the impressions he thanked me for being a fireman and gave them to me for FREE ($150 normal). While a jobs a job and I don't feel any more "special" for my job it was a super nice thing for him to do. I was able to get the impressions shipped off and should have a new pair of JH Audio JH16's and JH3A amp in the next 35 weeks. It's a long line for customs apparently. Ending the day with a little Norah Jones on the new Revels. Ahhh

Wow, that's quite a story. Congrats on the Revels. They look awesome but I'm sure are even better in real life! A regular visit to the audiologist should be a must IMHO. Not annual but every 2-3 years. That could save a lot of people's hearing. Enjoy your new toys.

Congrats on a great day! I'm curious - after the audiologist removed the chunk of wax from your ear, how much difference did that make? (don't say it was like a veil had been lifted, haha). Just wondered what it was like before and after.

Congrats on your new speakers! Let them break-in for a couple of weeks and they'll be singing beautiful music to you. With mine I found I prefer the boundary switch off but with the F208 port plugged with the supplied foam plug. This really tightens up the bass. You'll prob want to have the tweeter setting to either +.5 or +1 depending on personal preference. Enjoy!

Just wondered what it was like before and after. It felt like pressure was releaved from my ear, pressure I didn't even know was there. I actually have my hearing tested yearly and have shown no notable loss on the tests. I am sure it had some effect on my hearing, but couldn't tell you for sure. maybe a silk veil

You've owned some great gear over the years.

I hate firefighters. Not because I don't understand the necessity for them and not because I don't appreciate what they do, but for personal reasons. I'm a safety engineer; if the firefighters have to go to work, it means I failed in my job to PREVENT the fire or explosion in the first place. To me, firefighters at work are a sign of personal failure.
So thanks for your service, but I sincerely hope you never actually have to go to work!

Got to love people in your profession. Having being an emergency support worker myself (different field) I thank you guys. I remember seeing them rush through the ER to shortcut to the pediatric unit with a baby whose heart had failed. Real heroes and usually on the scene well before the medics. I'm curious as to those earphones you showed with that stuff that looks like a butterfly. Is that the ear impression? And how do you use it? Does it go in the ear canal or form a seal of the outside of your ear lobes?

It is an acrylic mold created based on the impression the Audiologist takes. So the drivers/armatures are inside the acrylic mold, the sound ports are very deep in your ear and very comfortable due to them being molded exactly to the shape of your inner ear. JH is kinda one of the grandfathers of in-ear monitors doing one for Van Halens drummer years and years ago while he was their monitor engineer
