I've stopped buying BR's (at least for the moment) because of the high cost ($20-$35 for BR new releases). I'm doing the Redbox thing and while it has its flaws (mostly availability of new releases) it's much better to spend $1.50 on a rental than the $25.00 it costs to buy a BR - especially if you didn't really like it, or if you're like me meaning I'll watch a movie once, maybe twice.... but that's it...
How about use guise???

I still buy, but my purchases are fewer now than in the past as I still have a stack of unwatched blurays. I'm also selective so it makes sense for me. If I were a more avid watcher, then I would pursue other options. I don't use Netflix and have used Amazon streaming on an occasional basis mostly just to try it out. The poll should include streaming as many are using streaming as an alternative to buying or renting the hard disc. Also with respect to buying, if one is willing to wait, many movies sell for a substantially discounted price a year or so after release so the cost of buying is not so high in many cases.

Mostly buying for me and mostly Blu-ray.I'll buy DVD if no Blu-ray is available and none is expected or for lesser titles that I find at a bargain price, especially used.I almost never rent anymore and while I have streamed a few I have not really gotten into that very much,at least not yet.
I am always way behind on movie watching and always fighting a tight budget so I rarely buy the more expensive new releases.I know that some people like to watch the latest thing as soon as possible but I don't care about that very much.I'd rather wait till the price drops on most things.

If I think that a movie is going to be something that I'll want to buy, lately I've going to the theater to check it out.
Unfortunately, lately I've been disappointed. But yes I do rent movies. Almost always to see if they capture my imagination enough to buy them. I think of movies as old friends. If I like them, I want to go back and spend some more time with them.
So far I find that hunting for my old friends, to see who has the contract to stream them is year, is too aggravating for me. So yes, I buy a disc to have and hold on to.
DVD? No, not unless no other copy is available. Who wants a fuzzy picture of their friends?

Oblivion just came out on BD. I'll probably buy that because its supposed to be such a good movie. Rented Argo last night. While it was good, I probably won't watch it again so the $1.50 was well spent.

Yes, I buy blu-rays, but not at the store. I pick them up at yard sales for about $1-2 each. Needless to say, my collection is eclectic, but that's OK.

I only buy and these days it's almost 100% BluRay unless one is not available and I really want the movie. Or, that addictive cheapo bin at WalMart...
But I rarely buy any disk when it is first released. The price comes down very quickly to a reasonable level.

I used to only buy Blu-ray's, but now I have Netflix. I don't even remember the last Blu-ray I bought.

I buy and rent Blu's, lately I've been renting as I haven't seen much worth owning in the past 6 months. The last couple blind buys I did kinda bit me in the butt as they weren't great. Cost of the Blu's isn't really an issue for me as I pick them up at wal-mart for 20$ or less and I just don't buy a-lot.

I only buy BD's that I know I will watch more than once. I don't rent, if it's not good enough to watch more than once then I'll watch it on cable.
Cheers Gary

Buy. However, I won't pay $20-35 for a new release unless it's 3D combo and one that will be subject to repeat viewing. I stopped renting after the demise of Blockbuster. Nonetheless, I like owning for the ability to watch when I want, as often as I want. Also, some rentals are bare boned (no extras) and, I've read, do not always include the hi-res audio tracks. On the other hand, well occasionally stream from Vudu for kiddie flicks.

Rent I have found for me buying is a waste since I rarely watch a movie a second time. Guess if I got rid of the cable I might be more apt to since all that is on the TV is re runs.

Went into my local Bestbuy today and they have shrunken the movie section by 50%. For instance they are selling Olympus Has Fallen for $24.99. I rented it at Redbox for $1.50.... Something's gotta give here. Who the hell is gonna go buy a new release for $25-$30 when you can can rent it once (or twice) for $1.50 and then buy it in the $10 dollar bin later
