Looks more like a '66 to me... the '65 has a horizontal bar grille, this one is egg-crate style which appeared in 66... That said, I doubt the car that went over the cliff was a real 'Vette at all, and more likely a fake of some kind or done digitally. Well, I wouldn't argue with you about it. The 65/66 is by far the hardest of the mid years to differentiate. The clue I've always looked for is in the rocker panel covers. The '65 had almost full polish on the covers:
The '66 had a series of 4 or 5 raised ribs with black in between:
The vents on the side were identical between '65 and '66. The hood, whether small block or rat, were the same. To me, the car in the movie looks more like a '66.
In any event, I loved my '66. White, red interior, ragtop, 327ci, 350hp, 4 speed. Loved that car...
PeaceGreat color combo. The original colors of the first vette in 53 and my fav. Had two 67's through the years. Triple blue tag top with the 300 motor and green with saddle with the 350 hp motor. Wish I had either today. Those were the days .. I drove a 69 L88 for a summer. Worth a small fortune today and I hated it. Black on black. Sweltering in the summer. To me nothing like a small block.

I cried when I watched that scene. If you think that (Star Trek, Kirk Corvette) was a loss of Corvette flesh look at what happened just a short time ago. The Corvette Museum's (about 5 mi from where I live) floor caved in from a sink hole!!! Fortunately, it occurred at a time when no one was there, but what a loss of 8 beautiful machines! If you don't already know about this check it out on the net. Ok, back to tubes and vinyl, lol

You know, I've driven a lot of Vettes, and owned 2, my '66 and an '85, I've never driven a big block Vette though. I've always been told they don't handle as well but are a blast in a straight line. My bucket list Vette would be a mid year coupe resto mod or a C6 ZR-1. Peace

I cut this clip from the new Star Trek movie which was released on iTunes today. Scene is from Jim's apartment. It looks like he has some serious tube and analog gear. Good filler for the plot holes. Good interview too.
