Sales are great, but when the sales are held at the same time period every year people will obviously learn it, know when to expect it and wait the next sale when they want to buy something. Having promotional sales now and then is smart if you ask me, it creates buzz and people will be talking about it, linking to your site and you expand people's awareness of Emotiva as a brand as well as widen your customer base.
I'm in the market for a pair of Emotiva monoblocks. I've been considering XPA-1, XPA-1 gen 2 and XPR-1. I have come to the conclusion that I want a pair of XPA-1 gen 2 because of the 60w class A. I suspect that they are holding off its launch until after XPA-1 gen 1 is out of stock and probably also wait until after the holiday sale. How frustrating is knowing that it is probably ready, but I can't buy it until they're out of stock and the sale is over?
I think that announcing a generation 2 model before it is ready to ship is a two egged sword. On the one hand people can start saving up for it from the date of announcement until the launch. On the other hand demand for generation 1 will go down and a lot of people who would have been interested in gen 1 at the current price will now probably want it cheaper.
In my opinion it would be better to launch XPA-1 gen 2 under a new model name and sell it at the same time as XPA-1, but reduce the price of XPA-1 and then discontinue it after it was sold out. Who knows, maybe sales of XPA-1 is sluggish as people are waiting for XPA-1 gen 2, which will only prolong the wait for all of us who want to buy it. It is even possible you wouldn't need to give it a new name – I mean – why not sell both generations at the same time and discount the first generation?

I don't think it would make sense for them to hold off selling the XPA gen2. Just like you say, they could easily put it up for sale with the regular price. They would then sell the XPA Gen2 at the full price to whomever may want them and also sell Gen1's at the sale price to us cheap bastards prudent buyers. So I don't think they are holding off. I do see the reasoning behind not having regular sales and I hope by not having the sales, the regular price will be lowered accordingly I don't think the sales are a bad thing for Emotiva though, as I've probably bought several items on sale when I probably wouldn't have bought them otherwise.

us cheap bastards prudent buyers I resemble that remark, I've not paid full price for anything from Emotiva so far. I rationalise it as we (International buyers) have to pay for freight (never less than $US100), cop exchange rate losses and fees, so paying less at the sale or B stock price is our way of offsetting that. Cheers Gary

I DO think there were entirely too many sales this year. Aren't there usually just two sales, one summer sale and one holiday sale?

With that said and with sales ending starting in 2014, the only way I will be able to afford new Emotiva will be if they will allow/offer some type of payment plan. Maybe I am just too conservative with money, but I buying audio gear on a payment plan doesn't sound prudent to me. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if they ever have clearance sales, as in clearance of models being replaced by newer versions.

I don't know if there are too many sales but what I do know is my experience with Emotiva. While skimming different web pages around the web looking into audio I found Emotiva. The first sale with the 30day trial lured me to try my first Emo product. Later another sale and another Emo product. Then there's this sale,,,,,,, more products purchased from Emo. Thankyou so very much Team Emotiva! Really all of you are responsible for my financial ruin!!! No really with out the sales I would not have the killer sound system that I have rite now. I do credit my wife and myself for saving for a long time to get a nice sound system, but with the sales I have realized a system much better then I had dreamt of. The. Sales staff, quality products and ownership leading this company are what any TEAM or company strive to accomplish. Emo has a grateful following and a successful company with a growing reputation. Big Dan and Team Emo, keep up the great work. Thank you so much, Nick

I agree with Gary on this one, sales help offset fees and charges around shipping etc, sales mean we can buy gear and not be burn't so much over costs..

Just FYI......
If you haven't been following "the news"... you should know that Emotiva plans to DISCONTINUE having regular scheduled sales as of the end of 2013 (seriously)... so enjoy this years holiday sale.
In the future, there may well be various product clearances and other "promotions", but the "formal sales" are over.

^ Let's hope that plan becomes reality.
I've bought a UMC-200 only 1 month ago for $599 instead of the "scary" $499 right now. This makes me feel that I'm the one idiot paying for the savings of others. That's why I would never buy anything from Emotiva when it's not on sale. Both realizations can't be good for Emotiva.

Every Emo product that I've bought has been at a promotional price--I don't pay retail for anything from cars to prescriptions to canned corn. That's not to say it won't be offered cheaper at some point--That is part of life and being an educated consumer.

Funny.... A year or so ago I mentioned in a post that in my opinion, Emotiva had to many sales and probably wasn't the best move from a business standpoint for a multitude of reasons. Well, in response to that post I was flamed by many essentially asking who did I think I was to question the Emotiva business model?!
Interestingly enough, it seems Emotiva has questioned their own business model.....

Like always, the truth is somewhere in the middle. I predict that Emotiva will return to a final year holiday sale 2015.

Of course Emotiva may reinstate them - it's their prerogative after all.

I think they tried to hold off the announcement until EmoFest but news slipped out a little early. We don't know whether the new model is ready to ship. In any case the other XPA models were ready to be rev'd and that made it obvious that the XPA-1 would follow suit eventually whether they announced it or not. The surprise was the 60 watts of class A, but given that the G1 had (unofficially) 10 watts of class A, and with the success of the XPA-1L even that shouldn't have been a total shock. I disagree they should have given a new model number, the XPA-1 was/is a winner, they should capitalize on it's reputation and just bring it forward like they've done with the other G2's.

Agree Markus. They should listen idiot buyers like us. I think If they want to expand brand awareness worldwide (not only a brand which price performance higher also be a Famous Brand ) continue make quality products, sale only 1 time a year but not very much . Past years and now they act for American Buyers (frequent sales times, shipping). For future they can build a European warehouse to lower shipping charges for European Buyers. Respond other brands products faster.(where is new pre's) For example: I am a good Amazon Customer . They did refunds to me in past years which exceeds refund time policy. I like Amazon and continue shopping from them. Emotiva excuses only. Because they are much much smaller company.
