Speaking of the Zilla Family LOL - Actually, the source of my screen name is a novel, "All Tomorrow's Parties," by my fave Sci-Fi (cyberpunk) author - William Gibson. When a new technology comes on the scene, the virtually illiterate Boomzilla immediately and intuitively understands all the (unintended) implications and uses of the technology. Boom's not in any way technical, but he is imminently practical.

Guys, I was chastised by my friends for not liking the new Godzilla movie. Am I alone in this? surely not....
I thought the acting was poor. It wasn't that I minded the 1.5 hours of lack of action I just failed to emotionally connect with a single character. I wasn't expecting the movie to hold nominating rolls, but I just couldn't get into them. I felt like Godzilla was a side show. When there were action scenes it was like they were trying to cover them up. I just really really really wanted to love this movie, and I was so disappointed. Anyone else?

I take it you didn't see the director's first film, Monsters. BTW, I have not yet seen Godzilla, however if you felt it was slow and/or flat, I'm not that surprised given this director's previous work. For the record, I liked Monsters, as did my wife, however I know of a lot of people who didn't. To each their own I suppose.

For the record, I liked Monsters, as did my wife, however I know of a lot of people who didn't. To each their own I suppose. Based on my taste in silly movies I should have loved Godzilla, I just thought the acting/writing was lackluster. There is a lot of plot and development in this movie, so it was hard for me to enjoy. I expected a 2014 version of Godzilla to have much more epic sequences. It's fine that it didn't, I don't need that in my movies, but the acting just wasn't cutting it for so much development. For instance, I thought the acting in Pacific Rim was pretty bad, but they countered that with heavy action scenes throughout the whole movie. Therefor I enjoyed it. They knew the acting wasn't great so they pleased audiences in a different way. I also don't expect the acting to be crazy good in a movie like Godzilla but I was unimpressed. The first 30 minutes to me started off good and then it just plummeted. I found myself wishing for a more Pacific Rim type scenario as the movie was progressing. If I hadn't been emotionally connected to the film, I probably would not have been let down. I am also not a fan of posting negative thoughts about music/movies/food etc. so people can enjoy them on their own terms. However, something about this movie gave me that strong feeling to warn people.

I liked Monsters and I also liked the new Godzilla, but I fully get Pop's take on the film. It really depends on the crowd you are with when in the theater.

My friends think I am crazy. I keep telling them "I am glad you enjoyed it, but how can you not even remotely get what I am saying?" Like I stated, I really liked where it was going and then it was just dragging. if I was emotionally connected with the characters I would have loved every bit of this movie. There were two very good characters that faded out of the story. At that point once it just kept dragging there was no one for me to like. So I began saying where is Godzilla? I love him, and I am emotionally vested in him. Yet I am forced to watch him through a fogged over bus window. I felt like the director was hiding Godzilla in all of the action scenes.

The director used that same style in Monsters but there was good reason for that. He was operating on a shoestring budget and made the best with what he had. I would have loved to have seen the fight scenes that were briefly depicted on the TV cutaway shots (which were funny) but would have been cool if we then cut away to the actual action at hand like in the Toyo films.

I thought the movie was great saw it in 3d in the deluxe sound theater don't know what they call it but the bass was incredible ... so maybe it depends what theater you see it in.. cheers

We were in an IMAX theater. I have no qualms with the video/audio, That whole part of it was fantastic.
We did see it in 3d which might have ruined it for us. I will revisit it on Bluray when it is released and see if my findings change.

I liked it but Godzilla was hardly in this movie. I bet he got 5 minutes of screen time. I found that to be quite annoying. Started out good but overall a bit slow and Godzilla barely makes an extended cameo in his title role.

My GF hated it and all of my friends hated it. There's just so much wrong with it. Casting was very poor starting with the director. I've seen and liked Monsters, it's sort of like Trollhunter if anybody knows that movie or maybe The Mist where for the biggest part of the movie you don't see the monster and even when you do they're not the main attraction of the movie. In those movies it works. For Godzilla it doesn't. It makes the movie appear to serious and almost indie. But there's more than Godzilla lacking screen time. Why would you kill of the only two talented actors within the first 15 min or so and leave us with this incredibly boring young couple? It could go on for a while but what I really want to say is this: There is one director who would've nailed this movie. I'd bet anything I have on it. And his name is ... Guillermo del Toro

This looks like your typical mindless movie with tons of gratuitous special effects to compensate for how lousy it is. I predict it will do well at the box office. And folks in the lounge will marvel at what a great workout it gives their subs. It's actually a love story..

Just finished watching Godzilla! My take: It was worth the rental. Maye not so much to watch it in theaters. Maybe worth it in 3d. Count on women being bored out of their minds with it. Review: I was excited about this movie and biked myself late in the night over to redbox to get it. For osmebody that knows very little about Godzilla, this was I thought a pretty decent take on it. I really liked the look of the movie. The whole dark atmosphere gave a rather unique look to the movie which was nice. The creature effects and the way they looked were fantastic. Just right and looked organic and they moved like you would expect. The fight scenes - what little there really were was pretty decent. The fire breath (what little there was) was fun. I also didn't realize this movie wasn't meant to be JUST Godzilla. (Won't spoil that any further). But.... That scream was a little....eh though accurate. Give me a t-rex scream anyday. Here's how I would have liked it as edited by a youtube user. (Give that man a job!) The characters: Forget about caring about any of the characters or the plot. Seriously, you're really not going to care one bit. Not a teeny bit. So it's strange that so much time was focued entirely on these characters. I didn't understand why as it was the least interesting part of the movie. (Don't mind me, I'm on the phone most of this movie) There were wierd coincidences that just happened to place the main character(s) to witness the monsters at nearly every possible location in the movie! While the dark atmosphere gave a unique look, both my wife and I kept talking about how little you could actually see anytime anything amazing was happening. For instance, the creature ate a submarine and hurled a bunch of ships, could barely see it. Godzilla was pushed through a massive building twice! And they barely showed it both times. We just saw a bunch of dust. And this was sort of the main problems we had. Anytime there was anything AMAZING happening they either barely showed it, acted like it was nearly in the background, or simply cut right away. At the very first scene when the monster(s) hit the land there was going to be a big fight in the city. It cut away to show a glimpse of TV screens showing footage of an incredibly cool battle and cut away (again!) two seconds later! And this scene was in the daytime where you could actually see it too! Godzilla is Japanese so unlike the 90's Godzilla that pretty much ignored that, this movie tried to include it. But because they did so, made it very obvious that the movie felt "whitewashed" and the effect was more jarring than completely ignoring it like the 90's did. For instance most of the beginning part was in Japan where it showed it as being a Japanese problem with all kind of Japanese people in biosuits runnuing around. Then the moment the monster shows up, 'Murica shows up and goes "we'll take it from here" and then asks the only japanese person who spearheaded the operation who he wanted to bring along and he points to two (american) people who they had picked up fifteen minutes ago who barely knew what was going on. Not all the experts that were working on this for fifteen years! The other problem was with characters: tey tried to include a romantic family subplot. But it was entirely a worried wife talking on the phone with her hubby over and over again. And the rest of it included her watching the tv. Having said that, the little we saw of Godzilla was quite fun and I ended up hoping they would do a second one. This time with less people (one main character was too much!) and more Godzilla. Worth a watch.
