I was mortified to find when removing the side plates that one of my UPA-1s has it seems FADED significantly!!! How can this be....can the sun really fade anodized aluminium? could this one unit be a failed or flawed front panel?

Far more annoying than mismatched blue leds thats for sure. I doubt emo will send a new front panel to me....but you never know.

I would guess it is oxidation. Maybe you could try a little rubbing compound (automotive wax).

I agree. I bet is it something caused by the elements (air, moisture) that can be removed with a little elbow grease. Unless your amps are sitting in direct sunlight every minute the sun is up (which I am sure they are not) and the amp case coating is baking off.

Interesting ... I just took the trim off my UMC-1 and UPA-700 and didn't notice any difference, but they're only about a year old and have been behind doors most of the time. Looks like even if you added the black trim there would still be a difference, though it wouldn't be as noticeable due to the relief. Certainly worth a good cleaning.

I have tried rubbing alcohol. cid (very lightly) and stainless steel/aluminium cleaner too and noting made any improvement or for that made made any difference at all better or worse!
its only on one unit which is odd ... I have good amount of emo gear and this is the only one that has this issue...out of 5 UPA-1's, 2 UPA-2's, 2 XPA-1's an XSP-1 and a UMC-1 and thats just what I still have in my possession.
I bet my chances of a replacement front panel are next to none as the product is out of manufacture. Just an annoyance I will have to live with I guess. At least being an amp I dont have to have visuals on it so can maybe hide it away but thats not how I normally place my gear.

This can happen when exposed to the sun. I have black anodized speakers in the dashboard in one of my cars. Over time the black started to fade and is know almost golden...
