ok, so here my dilemma. I decided to run the stereo "outs" from my oppo to the umc1's cd input and this while having the HDMI cable connected as well. The sound was horrible and low. I the switched to the DVD setting and only got the left channel. Shut everything down, unplugged the stereo RCAs and all is well. What could have happened? I suffer from Audio OCD and always feel I broke something. thanks

Maybe one of the channels was hooked up to the RCA RF output.

Im sure it wasn't. I had the digital out from the OppO to a DAC and was able to switch from different settings on the UMC1. I just thought maybe someone has experienced the same or something similar. thanks

So now I'm worried. I jus turned my system on, put in a CD and the left channel was only playing. I hit the input on the UMC1 and brought it back to DVD and then both channels were playing. I also noticed it used to display DVD Stereo on the UMC and now its showing AUX4 PCM 44.1 STEREO. Dont think the RCA connections had anything to do with it. Now I did have the system apart this weekend for cable organizing and placement. But when it was back together it was fine for a few days.

I would take it slow and test/do a few things first. When you say "brought it back to DVD", does it mean you have an analog cable plugged into the DVD input, or is it an HDMI connection? It will be useful to use the default connection names and not the custom names for the inputs.
1. Make sure ALL your inputs are set up and plugged correctly in the UMC. Also, use Direct mode for now. Plug and test one connection at the time. 2. Plug an RCA cable from Oppo to the CD input on UMC-1 (bypass your DAC). 3. Check if anything is indeed plugged into AUX 4.
Let us know.

Cool, thanks. I plan on looking over everything with a fine tooth comb this weekend. Its also possible this has been an issue for before, since when ever i turn my system on it was in TV mode and I would switch to my CDP.

Also... before anything else, when you hear only one channel, switch the cables in the UMC's input area (red to black). Note if the problem channel stays where it was or switches sides.

Just tried it and it worked fine, go figure. The one thing i don't understand is how it once displayed DVD Stereo and now displayed Stereo PCM 44.1
