Well I only heard them at B'zilla's house with the XPA-1 Ls. They didn't do too hot. It may ave to do with the preamp and the DC-1 or something else. But in that setup it didn't do well. Ahh, that's too bad. I was hoping they would shine with a DC-1. Thanks for the reply. My DC-1 fed from an Oppo 103 and connected to balanced inputs of the XMC driving the XPA-1Ls sounds very good.

Sorry I meant to reply to that too. Yeah it doesn't mean the DC-1 will not work well with the XPA-1L . It just meant in that instance in that particular room and setup things didn't work well and I had no other point of reference with the XPA-1 L to tell you. You've just heard from geebo that it does do well with an XPA-1 L and I have no reason not to believe that.

And as I noted, the DC-1 does great paired with a pair of XPR-1's. I have also heard it paired with my old Rotel stereo amp through B&W 202's...sounds great. Heard the DC-1 driving Stealth 8's. Sounds great. I had my DC-1 running through my XSP-1 to my nCores...sounded great. So, my common thread...does not matter what I do, the DC-1 sounded great.

DC-1 direct to amps - sucked. DC-1 through XSP-1 - sucked. DC-1 through McIntosh tube preamp - sucked. Yes, there IS a common thread. But no, it isn't the DC-1. The DC-1 makes music for the ages in garbulky's setup, and apparently as well in klinemj's. So what IS the common thread? My room, for some reason, does NOT like the DC-1. It DOES like the Oppo BDP-105's DAC. Go figure!

I don't understand why everyone finds this so difficult to swallow. The Oppo 105 uses Sabre DACs, which sound distinctly different than the DAC chips we used in the DC-1.... The Sabre chips tend to emphasize details, which seems - at least to me - like the sort of sound signature that will work better in some situations than in others. Likewise, the DC-1 is very neutral - which I would also expect to work better in some situations than in others - and to not necessarily appeal to the same folks. DC-1 direct to amps - sucked. DC-1 through XSP-1 - sucked. DC-1 through McIntosh tube preamp - sucked. Yes, there IS a common thread. But no, it isn't the DC-1. And apart from the chips, the all important power supply and analog output stages are different, with potentially different sonics.
For example, I liked the DC1, but not the Oppo 105 so much.
I like my Grace m920 better than either( it has sabre dacs), and would argue it has the most well developed analog stage.
After all, Michael Grace designed the preamps for Rowland, a very high end moniker.

I mean, it is your room in which the DC-1 does not sound good, it is your room which eats your iTunes library, it is your room that causes lots of issues with your PC. I am indeed noticing a trend. Is your room named "Christine", perhaps? Mark

I did once, then I repeated it...it was.........wait for it.......as a veil was LIFTED!!!! (Stay until Thursday! Try the pork!!!!) Mark

I've mentioned this before. But Voices of Music has excellent soundstaging. Even though it's on Youtube. It is 4k video too on quite a few of them! They also have CD quality stuff for sale on their website. That was amazing!
