I have been researching a replacement for my Integra DHC 40.1 pre-amp/processor for a few months and was surprised to see that Sherbourn prices have been seriously discounted and I assume it is due to some rebadging that will occur now that Jade/Emotiva owns the line. After talking with a few Sherbourn owners, reading online reviews and some input from our own Andrew Robinson here at The Emotiva Lounge, I pulled the trigger on a new PT-7030 AVR. With a very versatile and extensive set of HDMI Inputs and Outputs, it will easily handle my HDMI switching needs, even for those components I haven't acquired yet! My Integra is a nice unit but lacking in musical depth and detail. The Sherbourn received very positive reviews specifically a consistent "thumbs up" for its musical prowess. It lacks some of the "convenience" features many users would almost consider standard these days, such as a room EQ or auto setup feature but that's not an issue for me. I tend to tweak my settings to my liking. While an Audessey EQ or other such feature gives many a baseline to work from, starting from scratch with the Sherbourn 10-band, multi-channel parametric EQ for all seven channels, as well as the subwoofer channel, will be an interesting challenge reminiscent of those old skool slide controlled equalizers. I'm looking forward to unpacking this unit, setting it up, tweaking it and giving it a HT and musical workout!

It arrived today and after discussing a few things with Joe at Emotiva, I think I have a handle on how to set this up. Gotta get some XLR balanced cables so I can take advantage of those connections on the back of this awesome looking machine!
