Hey guys,
Thanks for all of your input!!! I decided to go with the following setup:
Emotiva mini-x amp (on sale $169) Polk Monitor 40 Bookshelf Speakers - 8 ohm, 89 dB sensitivity, 1" tweeter, 2 x 5.25" mid/woofer (newegg $129/pair) Dayton sub 1200 - 12" subwoofer, built in 120 watt amplifier, gain control, high level speaker inputs, variable crossover, goes down to 25Hz (parts express $129)
This setup should be fun, since the polks get rave reviews for their high efficiency, great highs and mids, and the Dayton sub will provide some solid low end. The sub has crossover control and gain control, so I'll be able to control the bass independent of the mini-x (volume control only).
I'll report on how she sounds once I get the equipment and mess around for a bit. All in all, I'm pretty psyched to see what this $430 set up can do.

Best Buy have the newer version of these at $89 currently. The advantage there is you can take them home and test drive them for 14 days under their return policy if they aren't going to be what you want.

I decided to go with the Andrew Jones designed Pioneer SP-B22-LR bookshelves and the Dayton SUB-1200. I haven't received the sub yet, but hooked up the pioneer bookshelves to my mini x today. Straight out of the box the speakers sounded unbelievable, and I'm sure they'll just get better as they are broken in. Bill Evan's "Waltz for Debbie," was very warm and clear. Bass was surprisingly present for the 4" drivers. M. Ward's "Poison Cup," was phenomenal. The mini x effortlessly drives these bookshelves. With the volume knob turned to 1 o clock (just past halfway), the speakers are loud, at 2 o clock, they are very very loud...with noticeable distortion at high volume. I could not be happier with my purchase. So sweet for such little $. I will add another review once I receive my sub.

Update: I meant "no noticeable distortion at high volume"

MMGs have a sensitivity of 86 dB. I suppose the mini-x would drive them but really I would say you need to feed these speakers with more grunt - something north of 100W+.

I have the Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC and I'm looking to pair it with something of similar size for an amplifier to drive a pair of MMGs. If the mini-X would not do the job, any other suggestions? Has someone tried the mini-X with MMGs and have a review?

They are an amazing value for the money. He couldn't be happier as well. Enjoy, C

I was as equally unimpressed but they never made the trip home so that I could massage them properly. They are practically giving them away now.

I bought my Mini X A-100 last spring and have not used it yet. I'm also looking for a bookshelf speaker to pair it with. I'm just curious about the Pioneer SP BS22LR a lot of good reviews. For less than $100 at BB, I might try it.

I have the towers and center channel in a small guest room surround sound, and for the money they were surprisingly good.

I think the mini will drive a pair of Klipsch RB 61 II very nicely, also these speakers have enough bass that you would not be missing any. They are not a cheap speaker but I feel that with these you get what you pay for. Full bodied sound in a reasonable sized room.
Peace, Nick

Went out this afternoon to BB and got Pioneer SP BS22LR for $86! Have not hook it up yet just got home. Will also try it with my XDA-2 and XPA-200 combo. Will only use Mini X & Pioneer for a small office set-up. Thanks.

I would recommend looking on eBay or Craigs list for some nice used klipsch speakers. These are very efficient and should sound great with the mini-x. Definitely. Heresy II's or go big and go Cornwall.
