Make sure to check the speaker setup in the Oppo if using it's RCA outputs. It has it's own bass management. Then set direct on the UMC. Thanks. Thats what I needed. one more thing. Theres a CD input inthe back but I dont see it when I scroll through the menu with remote control You have to set up the input. Go to Menu > Setup > Input Setup. There you can select an input to define and assign the video and audio connections to use for that input. I believe the CD connection is "Analog 2" so you would assign that input for the audio. You can also go to Menu > Setup > Input Name and name your new input to whatever you want. Connecting it this way will allow you to use the UMC's digital signal processor or choose direct if you choose. You can also use the L & R of the 7.1 analog inputs of the UMC for a purest analog signal path possible with the UMC where no signal processing will be available.

So I'm finally able to tinker (works been hectic) What I did is stereo output from oppo to cd analog 2 on Umc1. Turned hdmi audio off on oppo Volume is very low and audio quality is poor. I ran emo q 3 or 4 times since its not been done in a while or since I changed my surrounds. I'm getting some very low level popping as well. I feel like a total dumb a!!! not being able to figure this prepro out.

Couple things.....
You don't need to turn HDMI off on the Oppo. When you select the input on the UMC (HDMI for BR or analog for CD) it will use the appropriate feed.
And, Emo-Q is completely bypassed when using 2ch analog input, so there is no need to bother with that.

So I went back to hdmi. I have both hdmi cable and rca cables connected. The rca goes to the cd input. The hdmi to hdmi #2.

ok, I normally figure things out. And I have spend a lot of time just listening and adjusting. I still cant get the oppo analog outs to sync with my UMC1. I set the input setup (dvd) audio to analog 2 and have the rca cable connected there. The input setting seems to default back to HDMI. When I choose analog2 it stays yellow and not the orange highlight that the hdmi setting has. Yesterday I got it to work on 7.1ch and it sounded awesome. Then that stopped working after i switched disc. I seriously thinking of canning the umc1 for a standard stereo preamp.
