I have a Yamaha HTR 8063 receiver that provides the option to set at 8 or 6 ohms. My main speakers are Totem Hawks, which are rated at 6 ohms, and my centre channel is a Totem Signature-1, which is rated at 4 ohms. When using this receiver alone, I set the receiver to 6 ohms. Now that I have connected an Emotiva XPA-3 to that receiver, should I continue to use the 6 ohms setting on the Yam, or set it to 8?

If all speakers are running through the XPA3 then the ohm rating doesn't matter. Those settings are for the actual speaker connections.

Those switches usually limit the power output of the internal amps because they don't handle lower impedance loads very well. The XPA has no difficulty in that area. As mentioned previously, it won't matter when using an external amp but I'd just set it at 8 and forget it.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll set the Yamaha for 8.
