What happened to " You can never have too much POWER"?? Of course not, but you can spend too much on one component and not leave enough budget for the components that really need upgrading. All thing being equal there's a pretty good chance that spending $3,000 on amps + $500 on speakers is not going to sound as good as spending $1,500 on amps and $2,000 on speakers. Just my experience of course. Cheers Gary

Yes Gary, I think your correct, unless he's on a journey and has speakers already. I had an OK set of towers and desided to end-game my amps,XPR-1s, then I could go on to try throughout the rest of my years different speakers. I love the sound of my Paradigms but who is to say I won't try much more demanding speakers in the future? I does just depend on what someone wants to do over time, experiment or not, but the option will never be limited by having too little power in my case. Other people may find the speakers of their dreams early on and know exactly how much power they want and or need. Also, the dynamics, reserve power (headroom if you like) and the so many other intangibles that come with the XPR-1 amps are quick to spoil a listener. MAYBE THE WORD IM LOOKING FOR IS " authoritative " That's what I find in them and I really do love them. Back to your statement, yep, the most improvement for the dollars will always be the investment in speakers, almost everything else is a tweak!

the amps will never need upgrading. Until Lonnie releases the 2 box power amps, with the power supply in a separate box to the amplifier circuitry. Bingo, XPR-1's are out date, not top of the tree anymore, relegated to being just another mid range monoblock in the Emotiva power amp family tree Never happen? Well I recall people saying buy the XPA-1 as it will never need upgrading and then the XPR-1 came out Cheers Gary

I mean 60 watt class A 1000 watt 4 ohm monoblocks stable to 2 ohms?! That's pretty incredible.

I'm sure they are great examples of what a state of the art amp should be!!

I had auditioned many of Emotivas amp offerings!! And each set up, to me, was a noticeable and distinct edit;(step up). Missed this thought. That said, I really thought they would get tiered of me returning gear.(amps) and just desided to jump one step and be done!,,,,,,,as far as I know! Tubes may be a different story. Also, the gen 2 XPA-1 was not an offering when I purchased the XPR-1s. So, to answer your question, almost all of their amps had been right before my eyes before I took one leap of faith and skipped auditioning the XPA-1 gen 1. Edit; I have never even looked at the top shelf of anything in my life. This is the only time I've ever done something like this, besides my wife and following my Lord Jesus Christ. I have struck out my initial thought and will just say that I have been so very blessed, and I am grateful.

Once you were set on amps you probably went and upgraded your speakers. Sounds reasonable to me. No need to justify not auditioning the XPA-1s...wasn't the difference in price <$500 at one point? So, it really didn't make any sense to not get the XPR-1.

The Canadians are up next. The E-Gos are rather small compared to the other gear sold by Emotiva, or just resell to one of your countrymen if it's not to your liking. It's a big country ya know!!

It's big country all right (much the same as the USA), just not many people in it (1/25th of the USA population). I'm not really concerned, I have enough faith in Emotiva to know that the small Ego will be an upgrade in the home office system. Not that the Behringer isn't good, it has amazing sound quality for the miniscule cost. I'll actually be getting 2 Ego's, the larger one for a friend of mine to use with the Airmotive 6's I got for him a couple of months ago (I'm gradually converting him to all Emotiva). Cheers Gary
