If I don't (want) to connect my audio system to my computer, what's the best way to listen to hi-rez music? I suppose the preferred method would be connecting my surround processor to my computer using an Ethernet cable,(true?) What about simply via a thumb (flash) drive plugged into my processor's USB port? Or an external hard drive plugged into the USB port? What are the advantages or disadvantages of doing it either way?

I went ahead and purchased David Elias' Acoustic Trio DSD Sessions and must say the sound quality is excellent. Playing the native DSD files from my Oppo 103's analog outputs to my XSP-1 pro produce a very satisfying experience. Very lifelike acoustic guitar. Are you using the balanced or unbalanced between the oppo and xsp?

Navigating, do you use the front or rear USB port?

Subscribing. Thanks for starting this. I've been getting into HiRez music myself and am always looking for new content. I can relate with audiofile. This new HiRez music can lead to equipment upgrades. I've upgraded to an XDA-2, PT-7020c4, and XPR-5 mainly for music listening. Have the XDA-2 connected via XLR to the PT7020 and via RCA's directly to the XPR-5. Depending on what I'm listening to, I'll switch back and forth. When I want more stereo feel with the sub included, I run thru the PT7020. When I want a more critical listening experience, I go direct to the XPR-5. Direct to the XPR-5 I find is better in the mids and highs, but Stereo thru the PT7020 adds the sub so that's the trade-off. Either way, I love rediscovering my music with the better equipment and the hirez files. I get most of my stuff from HDTracks.

If I don't (want) to connect my audio system to my computer, what's the best way to listen to hi-rez music? The best way to listen to Hi Res music if you don't (want to) connect your audio system to your computer IMHO is to connect your audio system to someone else's computer.

You can put the files on a disc that an Oppo can read and it will play them. Of course, you have to use a computer to do that too! At least once.

Great thread to get started. Would definatley like more feedback on GOOD high-res music that's out there. There is one website I would like to point people toward before they get too deep into replacing their collections with "hi- res" versions... or at least THINK they are Real HD AudioSome very educational and interesting reading to be had here about what truly determines "high resolution" audio... I woud encourage everyone looking at high-res audio to do their homework first before handing over their hard earned cash!!! ....There are a LOT of outfits out there claiming "high-res", when in reality they are just dumping the same crap into a high-res container format with ZERO gain in fidelity. Of equal interest is the discussions on DSD and PCM processes. I figure this being the Emotiva forum, all members here appreciate GOOD HONEST products ...not a load of over-hyped marketing BS
