Hello all. I have been lurking for a while trying to soak up the knowledge and now I have a decision to make. I was using 2 Rotel RB 960BX's bridged to power my Paradigm 9SE Mk3's, and one of them died. Transformer gone. So now I am looking at either 2 XPA-100's or an XPA-2. With the sale right now the XPA-100's seem like a great deal. But everything I read about the XPA-2 seems pretty impressive. My main worry is that the XPA-100's are a slight upgrade but more of a sideways move. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Rick

If Im reading it right, while overall the XPA-2 has the advantage in transformer size the capacitance per channel is greater for the XPA-100. A pair is $200 cheaper. Guarantee cross-talk-free monoblocks get my vote.

If you can short couple it with short speaker wires, then monoblock it.
The XPA-2, with a higher number of output devices, will have a lower output impedance. (Higher damping factor).

Thanks for the responses.
I can keep it short. Probably a 4 foot run. I am leaning towards the monoblocks due to the amazing price.

OK. No longer a guest. Pulled the trigger and ordered 2 XPA-100's. Waiting anxiously now.

Thanks everyone. I found out about Emotiva quite by accident but was immediately intrigued. I don't buy audio equipment very often. I usually research and decide and stick with it. My Rotel's were purchased new and have been very good to me until one decided it was time to retire. I am hoping that these mono's will treat me well. These forums are full of info. I am glad to become a part of the family.

videon,
Hello and welcome to the forum. I brought a pair of XPA-100's too during the sale, and like you, I'm hoping that these mono's will treat me well also. I got one last month, and the other one this month. I gave up a lot of Beer, and Brandy these last two months just to get them. They were my Christmas present to myself. I now have to suffer through January. Nothing to drink for New Years either, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I haven't had a chance to hear them yet, but hopefully it won't be too much longer. I'm going to purchase the preamp this week, after the holiday. I'll be broke again, but after the pre amp I'm going to give myself a break. I don't know how long it's going to take the preamp to ship from China, maybe It will arrive before the end of the month. Been around this forum since 2010 when I brought my ERC-1, and I've read a lot of good things about Emotiva amps so I finally took the plunge.
I don't buy audio equipment often either. Actually I purchased my current system in 2010 which I'm very happy with. I don't know what happened. I guess hanging around this forum being exposed to different kinds of equipment gave me the bug. This year I brought another pair of speakers, a tube integrated amp, and the pair of mono blocks. 2014 I'll get the preamp, and another pair of speakers, maybe a ERC-3?. Then I'm through. Since I'll be taking a little break after the preamp before I buy my third pair of speakers, it will give Emotiva a chance to come out with their new speaker line. We'll see.
I waited for them to come out with some tube equipment since March, and we are still waiting. I'm about to purchase my second piece of tube gear. So If I don't see any speakers by March oh well!
Anyway, since you already have a pre/pro for your setup maybe you'll be kind enough to give us your impressions of the XPA-100's. I be waiting to hear how good the amps are. john

I think that I'd either go with 2 XPA-1Ls or the XPA-2.

I am actually using my Millett hybrid headphone amp as a pre. I am very happy with how it sounds. UPS says delivery Monday. That is to a US address and I will drive down and pick them up Tuesday and fire them up and have a listen.
