Hey guy's,I recently had my pair of xpa 100 arrive only to run into a small problem.I only had 1 rca cable at the time so I connected it to one of the preout, while using the cable that came with my amp for the other preout. The one with the used rca cable did fine, but the one that came with the emotiva amp made a HUGE noise as I turned on the amp.As I took out my subwoofer rca to test and everything was fine again. My question is, was I not suppose to use the black cable that came with the amp?Although my speakers sound find, should I be worry??

All I received in the box with my XPA-100s were the mains power cable and the trigger cable..so, which cable - you don't mean the small, mono remote trigger cable? That's used to connect to a pre-amp which allows the power amps to turn on at the same time as you turn on the pre.

I've never seen an Emo amp come with an audio cable. Only the trigger cable as Blooloo points out. Exactly what did you plug the ends of the black cable into? Is this the cable you used? Exactly what did you plug the ends of the cable into?

Yeah Emotiva does not come with a cable. I think you have confused the cable with the one Blooloo described. You'll have to buy a cable.

man I feel like such an idiot, also thank god for the stupid question forum.I skim through the manual and didn't see a part list.I do know that a rca cable is needed but I didn't have at the time so I figured that cable will do.Yes,that is the cable geeboo. My question is,could I have done any harm to my amp or my speakers?I only plug it in for a second or so and then quickly removed. There was a very loud buzzing but everything seems to be fine.
edit-This is one of the stupidest moment of my life....How the hell did I mix that up,looking at the size of the cable should already tell me enough not to use it as a substatitue for a rca cable.

If everything seems to be working fine then there was probably no harm done. Just sit back and enjoy the music.

'if'???Geebo can you tell me what COULD of happen In a worst case scenerio?I'm new to the audiophile world so I have no clue of the possible subtle signs that could be a damage speaker/amp.

Well, a very loud burst could damage a driver in the speakers most likely a tweeter. The amps have pretty good protection built in so it would most likely have shut down before any damage occurred. If your tweeters are working then you're probably OK.

I'm curious how exactly you plugged it into the output. A trigger cable doesn't even really fit properly and would be extremely loose. Also, I assume you only had it in the positive OR negative since it only comes with one cable?

I see thank you very much for explaining that.Although I'm curious, what are sure signs of a damage tweeter? Are there ways for one to test other then simply listening? Edit-It actually fit tight....Hence the reason I thought it was ok...Sounds stupid but it is what is it.....

Probably a bit early to be calling yourself an audiophile I think. I don't consider myself an audiophile either, more like an enthusiast. Dave.

Just listen to music that you are familiar with and if it sounds okay then you don't need to worry about anything. That's the test for any audio gear - if it sounds okay, then it's okay. Let your ears be your judge.

Ok but I don't think the terminology is very relevant here, also like I said I'm new.My definition of a audiophile is someone who strive's for the best sound possible lots of budget/little budget should not matter, besides we all got to start somewhere.
monokum-Thank you will do,all I have to do now is wait for my rca cable lol.

I think he may have inserted the plug into the center hole of the RCA jacks for the amps input and preamp output.

First post was a little hard to read so I got lost in my own answer while re-reading the post.

sky, Don't feel bad about what you did - as long as everything sounds fine then it's cool. We all do dumb things at times so no biggy, at least you had the wisdom to ask others via this thread - exactly what its here for . It once took me 3 years to discover my speakers were out of phase - had the red and black swopped out and never knew - when it was pointed out to me and I changed them it was, "damn - where did all that bass come from?" You'll meet a nice bunch of helpful people here.

Sky...don't feel bad. Each one of here has done something that, in retrospect, seemed silly., but it all works out in the end.
Enjoy your new toys! And, if you are concerned about speaker damage, put on some music at low levels and go put your ear in front of each driver. If you hear some and no odd noises (static, weird bursts, etc.) Then all is likely well.
Take care,
Mark
