I have a newbie question for you all. I recently purchased a UMC-200 and UPA-700 for my HT. I confirmed with Paradigm that my particular set of speakers/version/etc will run stable at 4 ohm. How do I explicitly set this in either the UMC-200 or UPA-700? I checked both manuals but don't see anything, so I'm guessing I cannot?
My previous simple Yamaha receiver from 2011 could do this in the menu..

No settings required on the Emotiva gear.

The reason your yamaha had these settings is because its built in amplifier section is pathetic. If it was driving 4ohm speakers at high levels without these settings turned on, it would burn itself up. When you set your receiver to 4 ohms, all your doing is turning on a current limiter. Sure it protects the receiver, but it also makes it much easier to send a clipped signal to your speakers, potentially damaging them. The reason your Emotiva combo doesn't have these settings is that it is robust enough to not need them.

Ok then I suppose I should assume it's automagically operating at 4 ohm then?

Yes it will operate at 4 ohms (and when it dips slightly below 4 ohms it will operate there too). A speaker load ia varying load so it will drive 4 ohms, 8 ohms and 16 ohms (and higher) without complaint.

Ok then I suppose I should assume it's automagically operating at 4 ohm then? There's no assuming, it is. My Phase Tech go well below 4 ohms when under 80 Hz and I've been rocking Emotiva amps for a while with no issues. Welcome to the world of better audio.

Enjoy your UMC-200 and UPA-700. They will perform quite well as they are a big step up in performance from your old Yamaha AVR.

The separation made the biggest difference! I was thinking it would be nice to give the front 3 more wattage, say 125. But this setup is in our living room and we mainly watch shows on Netflix, so volume isn't very high. Would I see a difference in this case going from 80 RMS to 125 for the front 3? 90% Netflix shows/10% Blu-Ray movies.

No.
Also keep in mind those are all channels driven figures. Usually the surrounds consume very little power. The unused power (though not 100%) will go to the channels that need it most. So what that means is that the all channels driven figure is the MINIMUM amount of power that amp can deliver and when the other channels aren't seeing much draw it will give more power to the fronts. Something like 200 watts/channel @ 4 ohms in stereo I think (in the general ballpark) similar to the UPA-200. Though it's anybody's guess what it would be for the front 3. Either way just know that you are getting more than 80 watts of power where it counts.

Very nice receiver, Nick! I especially like the use of the drop down door to hide the secondary controls - looks elegant. The top of the line receivers from all the major players are really nice. The XMC-1 is gonna have its work cut out for it...
