ROTFLMAO - I found out on my most recent visit that one of the best systems I've ever heard is wired with Radio Shack speaker wire (the plain stuff with the slightly pink transparent insulation). No "cable risers" to keep the wire off the floor, no fancy banana or spade lugs, and no "welding cable" gauges despite the fact that the speaker system is a 4-ohm nominal load with dips below that. Radio Shack - And I think it was 14 or maybe even 16 ga. Take THAT, wire weirdos!

With the Auralic Vega DAC in the system, the Emotiva T2s are sounding so good that I'm thinking of just skipping the Dahlquist option.

... or Klipsch RP600M speakers Boom... How do you like those 600s? Must be pretty good with subs right?

For some reason, the 600s don't sound as full with the Airmitiv S-15 subs as do the T2 towers. I need to fiddle with equalization and crossover frequency to see if I can get them working right again.

Having listened to the Auralic Vega DAC, and now getting the Dahlquist DQ-LP1 crossover sorted out, I don't know that I need any new speakers at all. The T2 towers are REALLY sounding good with the Airmotiv S-15 subs in this setup.

Mysteries... This afternoon, both channels of my Dahlquist DQ-LP1 crossover began working, and everything from the turntable to the subwoofers was dialed in and sounding sweet. So I invited an audio amigo to come hear the system this evening - and the whole right channel was out! No sound from speaker OR sub!
)T%^)(&(*_(^&\!@#$%^
So I bypass the crossover completely - no change.
I then bypass the preamp completely (direct from the Auralic Vega DAC/Preamp to the power amps) and things start working again!
So the problem wasn't interconnects - it wasn't the crossover - it was the preamp?
The balanced connections to the preamp work perfectly - but the unbalanced ones seem loose in the sockets. Probably a hot tab that needs rebending. I'll take the darned thing apart tomorrow & troubleshoot.
But isn't it just typical - works perfectly when I'm alone, but when I want to demo the system, one problem after another!
Sigh...

We’ve all been victims of, “ It was working great JUST before you got here!” IE: been there, done that! LOL

Got my audiogram today. The audiologist says I have "amazingly good hearing," and "whatever I'm doing, keep doing it."

Boom, where did you end up on room correction? You jhad a thread where you liked the Lyngdorf.....

Hi Bill -
Of the "automated room correction systems" that I've tried, the Lyngdorf WAS the best. But their "house curve" was never quite to my taste, and I always ended up having to correct the Lyngdorf results with DSP. Once I got my UMIK microphone, I discovered that I could get just as good a set of results with DSP only, so I let the Lyngdorf go.
And since then, Lyngdorf has updated their software! I've not heard their latest.
Glenn
PS: I got my Dahlquist DQ-LP1 crossover fixed. Turned out to be a poor connection on one of the jacks.

Thanks, Glenn - so are you using the mini dsp? Dirac?
Many thanks!

At the moment, I'm using Roon (that has its own DSP built in). However, by Saturday, I'm expecting to have my new Auralic Aries with Lightning DS software (that, as I understand, also has its own DSP available).
My best results have come from using the UMIK and REW software to take measurements (one channel at a time, thanks) from my listening position. I'll then apply DSP to flatten each channel individually. Finally, I'll listen to the results and apply finishing DSP to both channels equally.

garbulky's Chinese NoboSound "Little Bear" tube phono preamp sounds REALLY good with an analog front end. However, when used as a tube buffer for line-level signals, it sounds TERRIBLE! Loss of the high frequencies + blur in the midrange + really tubby bass. Apparently it was designed primarily for phono use, and the tube buffer circuitry was a throw-in afterthought?

My Auralic Aries came in today. Time to wrap up the turntable review and get back to digits. To do list: Back up the music drive Move the music drive from being an internal on the Windows machine to being an external USB Hook up the Aries Connect the external music drive to the Aries via USB Index the drive with LDS software Off to the races!

Well the preamp clearly works - it has to otherwise I wouldn't be hearing sound from the phono. Now is the tube engaged in it? I have no idea. But whatever it is does change the sound. Because back to back comparisons with another solid state phono pre yielded different sounds.

Got my Auralic Aries in today. Here's what I hope to end up with: The Auralic forum moderator says it will work the way I've shown it, and I hope to get set up today. My only doubts about the feasibility of the system are that the LDS software needs to index the data drive every time the system is started, and my data drive is huge... We'll see. There is a version of LDS Server in the Auralic Aries, but if I use that option, the iPad's LDS software must do the indexing (and the iPad doesn't store that information permanently). If it takes the iPad too long to initialize its index, my only other options would be to put a computer back into the system (that I really want to avoid, or to use a subset of the data. It should also be mentioned that connections between components are as follows: Data drive to Aries = USB Aries to AirPort = Ethernet AirPort to Switch = Ethernet Switch to Internet Router = Ethernet Aries to Vega = SP/DIF Coaxial or USB (whichever sounds better) Vega to Audio System = Unbalanced or Balanced (TBD)
