Been listening to the new XSP-1 gen 2 tonight for about two hours.. My first thoughts are it is very detailed. Bass has a lot of bite. Mids are a little forward, but the highs are very bright to my ears... Does anyone know if this or any preamp for that matter can calm down a bit after running it for a while... For comparison my Marantz PM8004 is a lot smoother but not as detailed either.

Can anyone tell me if the high/low pass knobs are supposed to be flush with the back case. The only way to adjust them is with a small screw driver. Strange... My USP-1 knobs came out far enough to adjust them with your fingers.

I do not own a XSP-1, but according to all the product images I've seen, the dials are flush with the rear panel. They can be adjusted using a screwdriver.
For the brightness issue, be sure HF boost is not activated. Try engaging Direct which will bypass any boost/trim settings applied to the signal.
