I have had my new amp for around 3 weeks now and thought I would give a little reveiw of what I think of the amp. Before I purchased this amp I was using my UPA-5 for music and movies.
Although the sound quality was good I felt I was missing some seperation and detail in my two channel listeing. The amp arraived in good condition even after the UPS guy basically threw the box on my porch. It was still very cold here when it was delivered so I let it set out over night out of the box to get it up to room temperature.
I then built a small shelf under my TV and set the amp there. I tried hooking the amp up directly to my XDA-2 and really liked the sound from my old Sony 400 disc player played directly through the XDA-2 to my amp. I eneded up hooking it up through my UMC-1 to have control of the sub. After doing this it made a huge differance in the sound quality.
I also played a couple of my CDs in my ERC-1 going through the UMC-1 as well to the amp. the sound quality was amazing, the detail in the backgrounds of the music came alive and a greater since of the overall soundstage was fantastic. I am not a professional revievwer in any way so I dont know how to use all the gargan to descibe what I am hearing but this is what I was looking for.
If I crank the music up it seams to get actually more clear and crisp. For example I played the Eagles Hotel California CD and although I have heard the song Hotel California so many times in my lifetime and thought I would barf if I heard it again, I actaully set and listened to instrumenets in the background I have never heard. It was like I was hearing the song the way it was recorderd for the very first time. The drums hit with impact and sounded very tight, the vocals shinned and the high end did not fatigue me in any way. The channel separartion I was hoping for was also there in spades.
Conclusion
So, if someone was to try and take this amp from me they would have to pry it from my cold dead fingers beacuse this one is a keeper !
I cant thank Emotiva enough for bringing quality music back into my life. Great Job Emotiva. Sh-t, now I want the XMC-1! This hobby is awesome !
Oh, I also love the April Fools Joke played on big Dan by Lonnie and the 8 track player. That was great !
