great minds think alike don't they!?
Thanks for the advice on the amps. Always great to hear from someone with the same speakers. The Emotiva's don't sound too "bright" with the Paradigms for you? I had read somewhere that there were a little harsh with our speakers, but it was on like V3's or 4's I think, not the newer V5's. In that particular example the guy had gone with the Parasounds and had a much better result, but as I said, it was on older version of the speakers so interested to hear your experience.

Still don't have interconnects, speaker cables, or the amp of course. And I'm missing a couple of the Studio 20's and one of the subs, those are still on their way from the US.
This is all very new for me, and doing everything blind as I can't audition anything. That's why all your, and others, advice and experience is so valuable because it's all I've got to go on... That and the opinion of the dealers, but they can be a little bias of course especially when it comes to the Emotiva option.

think you would have a very good sounding system with the xpa 1x and xpa5 for movies add the xsp 1 for 2 channel.. the new xmc 1 would be nice option too but no one has heard it.. paradigms are made in Canada by the way.. that's where im at.. just shipped these out

Hi. I have a complete Paradigm setup in my TV room and driving with 110 WpC. I also own the XPR-1 mono blocks exclusively for my sound room. Seems to me that the XPR-1 is like usimg a cannon to hunt rabbits. :-) I also have the XPA-2 in my pool room delivering 300 WpC which your Paradigm 100s would love! More than enough power for your needs. The only reason to overkill with XPR-1s is if you into critical listening and seek near zero distortion. For surround that's not needed, IMO. Save the coin.
PS. I read a review that pitting the Emo XPR-1 against "the other high cost amps costing 3x more" and they said "As good or better in every respect".

"The only reason to overkill with XPR-1s is if you into critical listening and seek near 0 distortion." This is very true,,,, Not anything I've ever heard approaches the signature sound of the XPR-1 monos. I'm sure the XPA-1s wiould do a great job,,,,,gen 2 even more so. That said,,,,,,the R monos will never run out of gas!

Hey Nick, have you every tried the XPA-1L's? With those on discount at the moment I'm actually wondering if I would be better to go with 3x XPA-1L's for L/R/C and then an XPA-5 for surrounds. The XPA-1's would be nice, but work out at $3,000 USD more expensive after factoring the higher shipping costs, tax, and the 1L discount.

IMO, you are fooling yourselves to think you can hear the differences in distortion among any of the amps mentioned.
Choose based on your power needs based on room size and speaker efficiency.
There, I've said it!

BTW, 500 watts will drive Nick's Klipsch KF28's, 98 db efficient, to spls of 110 db at 4 meters listening distance with 3db of amplifier headroom.
I don't know about you, but by the time you're done listening at that insane level, sell your equipment because your hearing's shot and replace it with hearing aids.
At some point, we're no longer talking about high end audio but power trips.

The XPA-1Ls are absolutely my other favorite amp in the world. I'd love to get a set for my other system ( two channel ) what a crazy great sound. I can NOT speak too highly of them. i did whimper a lot when I sent my set back to Emotiva,,,,,,,but at the time it was the only way I could afford the XPR-1s. Dang it all!!!!! Why does money have to have limitations, ?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he,,,,,,,,,,,,, Nick

Listen to AudioBill, he speaks the truth. I'd go with an XPA-2/XPA-5 combo and be done. With the money saved, invest in room treatments. They will make FAR more difference than spending big money on amps. And if you can find the amps used for less money, do it. Amps are simple beasts and if they do not fail within the first year the chances are they will last for decades...
