My view would be the 103 as paying for the higher level of DAC in the 105 would be a waste of money when the XMC-1 DAC would be as good if not better.
Cheers Gary

The 103 is the only logical choice. The DC-1 or XMC-1 will be money better spent. IMHO

If using the XMC-1 DACs why not get a player even less expensive than the 103?

I'd go with the 103 as well especially if you want to do any signal processing and/or bass management. In that case, the XMC would have to convert the incoming analog signal to digital for processing then re-convert back to analog negating anything the 105 might have given you.

There is no doubt the 103. because the moment you use the XMC-1 via HDMI you are using the XMC-1 DAC's hence negating the only reason to buy the 105 as the DAC's on the 105 will be bypassed if you do. Also...you don't HAVE to buy an oppo-103. If you don't care a HUGE amount on video quality some of the cheaper $80-150 Blu ray players have pretty good video performance too and transfer the digital audio signal to the XMC-1 just fine. The oppo's 103 main advantage is its video performance and also connectvity (DLNA network stuff).

Video is just as important. So for what it's worth the 103D looks like the choice. Thanks all. Appreciated.

Ah, so now you mention the 103D....what's your TV? Do you really need to pay the extra bucks for the Darbee? I've got a Samsung Plasma, top of the line and the video from my 103 is fantastic.

I have a pioneer elite pro 610. It will have to be replaced as no hdmi. Will more than likely go with a Samsung unless when I'm ready to buy I can find a sweet deal on a panasonic plasma. (discontinued ) I Hear how great the oppo picture quality is in all the reviews and now is the D worth it?

To be able to use the Dirac Live software with the XMC-1, you will be needing a PC anyway. So why waste your money on an Oppo player when you can just build your own powerful HTPC instead?
For watching 1080p content from Blu-ray, Darbee is the one best way to ruin picture quality IMHO. For upscaling DVD or 720p material, I find that the freeware madVR renderer gets the job done nicely, especially when used from within MPC-HC.

Hi yves How does Darbee ruin picture quality? I heard it was great! This is up for debate... "ruin vs. great". Think of Darbee as the equivalent of tubes for audio. It changes/filters the input. You may or may not like the output more as a result.
