I've got more Phase Techs than I know what to do with. I've even thought about giving a set to my daughter and selling her Airmotiv 4's for a gently used XPA-200 or UPA-2.

I think I would have gone for Hypex amps and Maggies. But, that's just me. And, I would have gone for a DC-1 and the source being a NAS via a PC. But, that's just me again! And, doing that might make room to try XPR-1's.

The RBH SX8300 is a very nice speaker if you have the room for it.

Yeah, I think it just comes down to which part of the system is more important. For example, dropping $1,200 on the digital source/DAC versus $400 on the analog TT might be great for someone with a bent towards digital formats, preferring to spin a few 33's on the weekends. In contrast, if the analog system was preferred over digital, one would/should allocate more than $400 on a TT, especially with the XSP-1 for a preamp. What I like about the Audioholics list is that they showcase some great bang-for-buck products. At the very least, it can give people ideas and general guidance. But yeah, I think each one of us could list a $10,000 system and it would be remarkably varied in brands. There's a lot of great stuff out there. It's nice to see Emotiva products in somebody's list.

Not a bad recommendation but you can have lots of diff combinations for this budget.

I would have looked at something further up the Pro-Ject line, an RPM5.1 with 2M Blue.

Very cool for Emotiva. Great products, I have a new found respect with my USP Combo after running it with my Rega DAC over the weekend,

(Not referring to the emo products here) A 10k 2 channel budget and that's what they came up with? They spent 3 grand on the subwoofers! The system is not balanced. No attention given to class A. No monoblocks. Etc. I would go instead for two PSA XV 15 subs. Two XPA-1's. An XSP-1 and a DC-1 (or better) DAC and an el cheapo sony blu ray player for SACD. 1600+ $2100 + $1000 + $500 + $80 Sony blu ray player = $5280. XV15 XPA-1 DC-1 XSP-1 Leaves $4720 to go for speakers. These: philharmonicaudio.com/folio-me/html/Phil%20Pages/phil3.html@ 3700 shipped Leaves you a $1000 to play around with. With which one can buy these or an HD 600 and still have enough left for room treatments. Now you have: A headphone amp Headphones 120 watts of class A power + 2000 watts at 4 ohms amplification Fully balanced Great speakers (which also go quite low) with RAAL tweeters and planar midrange Dual subwoofers that are full range Room treatments And a good DAC. That took me TEN MINUTES. Vs their recommendation Great speakers Good DAC No listed class A specs (though may have a significant amount) Not fully balanced 500 watts of 4 ohm power No headphone amp No headphones.

@gar I like your thinking, def way way too much on subs. Maggie 3.7s, Gallo ref speakers are also in that budget.
I'd probably even do away with the xsp-1 and just do dc-1.

I do share the bewilderment with certain selections, especially since ten grand allows a fair bit of slack to play with. I'd be a lot more critical and demanding with a 10K two-channel system versus a 10K HT system. But I'm sure this particular system configuration ticks all the right boxes for somebody out there. Actually, now that I think about it, $10,000 ain't nothin' to build a decent system with. I mean, you have to spend at least that much just for decent interconnects, speaker cables, and maglev cable risers! This would be a fun thread idea, though--build a theoretical 10K two-channel and/or 10K HT setup to fit your preferences and desires. It would be fun to see the various combinations. Bonus points for the first member who specs out Phase Technology loudspeakers whose name isn't stiehl11.

Gar, not sure if I would share your enthusiasm for the speakers, but we would have a pretty identical setup.

Gar, not sure if I would share your enthusiasm for the speakers, but we would have a pretty identical setup. Honestly the speakers are definitely variable in that setup imo. It was the first one in the price range that popped into my head. It's also not for everybody as it does require room from the walls due to its bipolar nature.

It's funny... the more that I think about it, the more that I realize that I pretty much have the 10K system that I'd put forth =P.
I'm just missing the right subs. I have a Ultra 12, but it doesn't really add enough to my system. I really need something to take it firmly down to 20hz. But I've got $1000-1500 to get it there (for a 10k system)
My alternative would be the Pendragons, I think. (Though I haven't had the chance to listen to them yet.

I would start with Pendragons before any other speaker under 10k. GreenKiwi You can get 2 PSA XS/XV15 for around that price. You won't be sad you did it.

Almost bought some from KD when he was selling... But unfortunately I need 12" due to other issues in placing them in the room. And whether or not id be allowed to bring them into the house. Measured multiple times for the PSAs and just could never make it work.

If I may throw in my two cents, I say use a pair of Hsu HB-1 Mk2 speakers. That will set you back only $318, which leaves a ton for the rest of the $10,000 budget. These don't need much power to drive, either, so sub an XPA-200 or even UPA-200 for the XPA-2 and save even more. Then use the freed up funds on accessories to sculpt the sound because we all know the accessories are what fine tunes a system. My choice of speakers and amp leaves plenty of room for fancy cables, associated lifters, even a Dakiom Feedback Stabilizer or two. You'd also have no problem fitting dual subs in the setup and staying within budget.
[edit] Oh, and room treatments. Spend a part of it remodeling the room to be acoustically perfect!

Bonus points for the first member who specs out Phase Technology loudspeakers whose name isn't stiehl11. This is how I would set up a system using the Phase Tech speakers. The price I using based coming from this link. save-on-audio.com/store/index.php?manufacturers_id=44&&page=22 x Phase Technology pc-9.5 speakers ......................................................$1789 1 x Emotiva ERC-3 (or DC-1 same price personal preference)....... $499 1 x Emotiva XSP-1...................................................................................................... $999 4 x XPA-1L.....................................................................................................................$2396 1 x Paradigm Studio sub 12...................................................................................$2499 1 x Paradigm PBK.............................................................................................................$99 1 x Blue Circle Power Thingee 6 outlets...........................................................$255 8 x GIK Acoustic Tri-Corner Bass Traps........................................................$1032 3 x GIK Acoustic 242 Acoustic Panels................................................................$180 2 x Emotiva XLR IC 1m..................................................................................................$35 4 x Emotiva XLR IC 2m...............................................................................................$160 1 x Emotiva XRCA IC 2m................................................................................................$22 2 x 6" female to dual male xlr splitters (from Ebay).......................................$19 1 x spool magnet wire 9 gauge 12'(from Ebay)............................................... ...$18Grand Total..................................................................................................................$10002 This setup provides a ton of power, capable of sending 1000 amps rms into each of those 4 ohm speakers. The sub is sealed, and is rated at 1700 watts rms. The Perfect Bass Kit provides the equalization the sub requires. I would place a pair of these amps next to each speaker. The thick magnet wires will be as short as physically possible without bending them sharply. The amps covering the higher ranges will run in class A mode while the ones covering the bass will be in Class A/B mode. This is a passive bi-amp system. Room treatments (88 square feet) and quality non-current limiting power conditioning are addressed. This was hard to keep under $10000. My Audioquest cables, at their high MSRP, did not make the final cut. I hope this earns me at least 2 bonus points and I'll be able to take .00000000002% off my next Emotiva purchase lol.
