I worked for almost 20 years in the Seattle area for a local mom/pop "stereo" store, so I've sold, auditioned, evaluated and measured all manner of different brands of gear, from the inexpensive to 5/6-figure-a-pair ridiculousness. I'm extremely happy with my Emotiva gear, the UPA-2, USP-1 and ERC-1. It rivals and/or exceeds the overall sound quality of some of the esoteric, high-end gear we sold. I'd like to know if there's any news on a replacement for the USP-1 pre-amp. There is the XSP-1 for $999. Friends and family absolutely love my USP-1's performance and price point but there's no current offering for a 2-channel pre-amp around $400-500. Is there a new 2-channel model in the works around that price range? Thanks!

Yes there is. They are working on a XSP-200. Which looks similar to the USP-1. It may have the resistor ladder chip volume control on it.

It will be interesting to see if the Xxx-x00 series (XPA-100/200, XSP-200) retains the 'Classic' Gen 1 styling or migrates to G2.

That got me thinking, maybe all the xxx-x00 products will (or should) retain the classic G1 cosmetics. That way you could mix U and X series and still have a consistent look. All the Xxx-x – single digit X series including the 1L - would get the G2 look. Hmmm ... first time I quoted myself, slow and pleasant summer afternoon.

No, just yours, that's interesting too. I'm easily amused ... which reminds me of a great National Lampoon parody of Mr Rogers interviewing a bass player (played by Bill Murray). First time I've 'seen' it, used to just hear it on the radio. Mr Roberts interviews a bass player Edit: I guess we're not supposed to notice he's not holding a bass, this really should just be heard. Edit - fixed it.

As noted, there is a replacement in the works, but...it looks like you are a 2-channel only guy. So...you don't need HT bypass, right?
If so, strongly consider a DC-1. Run your ERC digital in into the dc-1 and enjoy! I think you will gain from the better DAC and the clean DC-1 sound. And sell the USP-1

I much prefer the impact, fullness, punch, roundness etc of a pre amp and a USP-1 is one hell of a fine pre amp. Cheers Gary

No and No (just to be different, not difficult) Personally I'm not a fan of the DAC to power amp direct connection. I much prefer the impact, fullness, punch, roundness etc of a pre amp and a USP-1 is one hell of a fine pre amp. Cheers Gary Sorry, a bit late responding. I've finally moved to my new place, so my ISP was changed and such. AFA the suggestions of the DC-1 and the TT w/XPS-1, I had thought about it for myself, selling the USP-1 to a deserving friend. But I agree with you Gary. I don't watch movies and my TV viewing is limited to the very-few things I like to watch. Namely, motorcycle racing, anime' and astronomy/astro physics documentaries. Nothing else interests me. So I'm fine with 2-channel reproduction and most of my listening is occupied with music. The early 70s Pioneer tuner and the KX-390 deck need to be accounted for with the input choices and the USP-1 does all of that so well. I worked at a local mom/pop, sole proprietor audio store called The Stereo Shoppe my whole career in the Seattle/Tacoma area. Plus, we had an in-house service department for warranty service and older gear, whether we sold it or not. The Emotiva gear has exceeded my expectations by a wide margin. I auditioned and took notes listening to the usual suspects of higher-end offerings for 2 years around the Seattle area at Definitive Audio and Hawthorne. But my friend, who was the tech I worked with all those years, told me about Emotiva. While I don't need the HT bypass, I do prefer the capabilities of a great pre-amp; the HT bypass is the only function I don't use. Anyway, I appreciate the responses and suggestions. I was mainly asking because my friends are pretty impressed with the sound quality & performance-per-dollar ratio I found with the Emotiva gear, but were disappointed that the USP-1 was not being offered anymore. Good to know that the XSP-200 is in the works. Until then, they can come over and listen to music on my system!
