Hi and welcome to the lounge. So glad your here. Do you do two channel at all? Just think in most/my case, a pair of XPR-1s would do the job for any set of speakers. What a great and dynamic amp these are. Have fun here, there are more opinions then members,,,,,sometimes,,,,,he,,,,he,,,,,, Nick So Nick, a pair of XPR-2's used in a vertical bi-amp wouldn't get him a card in the monoblock society? I have to say no... its not fully balanced quad differential set up .. for that clean sound eh.. but with surf and turf maybe a jr membership along the lines of the xpa 100... mono blocks bi wired could work bob's cables work well for that but what about a quad set of mono blocks xpa 1ls at 479 each might be a nice improvement over the the xpa 2s or quad xpa 1s with the 60 watts of class a could work very well.. ive heard other says they had great results dual xpa 1 mono blocks per speaker.. ... sound net you 2 memberships too!!! he he see nick for details.. or nicks fav quad xpr 1 big dogs!!!! cheers.. Bob

Thanks for you words Boom, I have 5 dedicated 20 amps electrical runs so that's not a worry. This hobby is never ending on wondering if you can do better with replacing this or that. I do appreciate Emotiva's return policy, not many would do it with such a heavy item

Hello, I am currently using XPA-2 amps bi-amping my front speakers, Von Schweikert VR-4 JRs, and an XPA 3 doing center and surround duty. I was wondering if you think upgrading my amps to the XPRs would be a good upgrade? I have issues with mis-matched amps so would have to go full bore and purchase 2 XPR-2s and an XPR-5, hence my concern. I am heavily invested in various gear as it is and just want an opinion so if its not worth the upgrade I can fiinally get it out of my head. Thanks, Michael Hi Michael, What I like in monoblocks is that the transformers are separated per channel. What I like in bi-amping is that the transformers are separated vertically or horizontally Now if you have the room and cash and wall outlets you can try separating everything just like I did : 4 XPA-1 amps for stereo (on 2-voices speakers) I didn't try 4 XPR-1s since I didn't have the room for them... and never heard them (and being in Europe I didn't want to imagine sending them back) I compared 2x XPA-1s vs. 4x XPA-1s with some friends and we could feel the same difference as between 2x XPA-100 and 2x XPA-1. Does that get one 2 Mono club cards? Hehe, more choice now ;o)

I own both the XPA-2 and XPR-2. The XPR-2 is clearly a more refined amplifier. As Boomzila wrote, imaging is superior - especially depth of sound stage. While being a very good amp for what it is, the XPA-2 sounds more grainy, displaying characteristics typically associated with solid state gear. XPR-2 is more tube like. That being said, the smooth sound characteristics of the XPR-2 are a coloration which helps make most music sound good even if the recording is sub par. Neither amplifier is used in my main stereo system (using 2 Krells biamping my speakers) but I would say I can live very well with the XPR-2 in this system but not the XPA-2. Since I do not use air conditioning in my home during the summer living with the Krell's heat output limits listening to the evening. I am considering using the XPR-2 to power my mid/tweeters for this season.
