I assume the UPS part is free? Crazy. That is the bit I have never liked as we pay full price and not a reduced rate as the shipping is loaded in the price.
Bring back Fedex.

Bring back Fedex. +1 I did ask the question way back and the answer I got was that the freight charge was net, they deducted the U.S. freight cost then added the Internationsl freight cost. It was handled internally at Emotiva and with FedEx that seemed about right. But with bongo/UPS I'm not so sure. Plus I suspect that bongo are adding a processng fee for the work which used to be handled internally. The numbers to Australia indicate double or maybe even triple dipping, no net, processing costs added plus UPS is more expensive Internationally. I have no doubt that internal U.S. is cheaper with UPS than FedEx, which probably justifies the change as that is where the vast majority of the sales are made. My experience with UPS, albeit limited to a sample of 2, is that the trade off is in customer service. Internationally we get a double whammy, poor customer service from UPS and a higher price via bongo. Cheers Gary

My XMC-1 is being delivered next week in Spain. I've received a document from FedEx saying I need to pay €375 on delivery for Spanish tax/import duty.
I've already paid Bongo €470 duty/tax. What was that for? USA taxes and export duty?

What was that for? USA taxes and export duty? I thought that the shipping price of Bongo was in all inclusive price? So you don't need to pay anything else like import tax. I would suggest to contact Emotiva. If Bongo charges €470 for import duty and tax and fedex charges only €375 than Bongo makes a profit of €95 only for this service. You can clearly see that this Bongo deal is very expensive for international customers. Not good for international sales of Emotiva.

Bongo........It's a f#####g joke is what it is. Emotiva have missed out on the purchase of a processor, preamp, power amps and CD player along with a bunch of cables from me. As I mentioned before, last time I punched in some gear it came to sub $1000aud (which is below the tax and duty limit for Australia) and they, Bongo, still charged tax and duty. Theft.

The only thing I can think of, is Emotiva do not like International orders anymore. Maybe too much hassle. Quick way to scare off international orders is make them use Bongo! At least for us Australians its working.

It could also be that they signed a contract for a number of years with Bongo as only international shipping possibility and that it is difficult or costly for Emotiva to cancel the contract....

I thought it was all inclusive too, although their FAQ says it isn't. I've contacted Bongo via their web site and asked the question. Not that I'm going to turn FedEx away when they arrive with the package demanding money; I'll pay it and get Emotiva/Bongo to sort it out. I was actually surprised that US sales tax wasn't deducted from the $2k as it was being exported but maybe it doesn't work that way.

With all the issues I, and others, have suffered at the hands of Bongo, isn't it about time that Emotiva sorted this out, for the benefit of their international customers?
Come on Emotiva, we love your gear, but you are losing sales by passing us off to Bongo.

Before Bongo, the freight charges were very good with Emotiva for me to bring items into Australia. I have been buying from them, I think for over 5 years.
I think they are are great company with excellent audio products but with Bongo, I can't see me ordering anything anymore. It just becomes too expensive.
I wish them all the best and all the success they get but Bongo has put a stop to my future purchases I reckon.
It wouldn't surprise me if Bongo actually make more money profit out of each international order from Emotiva than they do themselves on each item sold.

You deal with private sales you slugged bad in transport..
In the case of emotive I would say FedEx will be the only options to use that being said you can be slugged all sorts of sh** with discount shippers.
Not sure how stamp duty goes on sub 1,500 usd products though you do have to watch the currency markets at the time of purchase as it can cost you more to buy things..

My first Emo purchase was an on sale XPA-5. Landed and delivered to my door for sub $1000 If I put that item in my cart today it's $1900 (and I still may have to pay 10% GST and 5% duty on top of what bongo are already charging according to some reports- which should not be happening).

Yes they do. I'll have to wait for Bongo to answer which will hopefully be tomorrow. The unit is being delivered on Tuesday.

It could also be that they signed a contract for a number of years with Bongo as only international shipping possibility and that it is difficult or costly for Emotiva to cancel the contract.... Bad customer service would be sufficient grounds to cancel any contract. For example, I've never seen a freight company contract that excuses the delays I expereinced and the contempt I was treated with when I contacted UPS. I still believe it's the cost of UPS v FedEx within the US added to the bongo offerings of online ordering, with no additional resources required at Emotiva to handle Internationsl sales. All up I have bought 12 pieces of Emotiva gear, all delivered via Emotiva arranged freight, except this one. This time it was going to be more expensive to pay bongo then pay Emotiva for the items. That's rediculous and simply unsustainable. Cheers Gary

I mention earlier I thought the rate of exchange converting to AU dollars that Bongo gave me was poor.
I just put in a XPA-3 into the cart and now it seems they are giving me a lot better exchange rate this time around.
Current exchange rate on XE is 0.772 and Bongo appears to give me about 0.755. Now this seems a lot better now (very good), so not sure what happened last time I looked at it.
Now if only the freight was a little better. $401.50 AU for freight on a XPA-3.

The XMC-1 arrived today and I did not have to pay additional tax and duty. I've not heard from Bongo but perhaps they sorted it out with FedEx.
A happy camper!

The XPA-1L arrived on Friday, opened it up Saturday morning to do the install and no XSS-1 speaker cables or trigger cable. Quick email to Emotiva Support, I'm sure they will get onto it first thing Monday. Luckily I had a spare trigger cable and I made up some short speaker cables as a temporary solution. Initial sound review in the XPA-1L section.
Delivery wise DHL walked all over UPS, took DHL 5 days from Oregon to Sydney, while it took UPS 11 days from Tennessee to Oregon. I do a cost comparison between the re-shipper and bongo later today and post it up.
Cheers Gary

I emailed Bongo with a copy of the FedEx document showing they'd overcharged me on the tax and duty. I had an email this morning saying they are refunding the overcharge. Result!
